James Comey: Joe Biden Should ‘Consider’ Pardoning Donald Trump

Former FBI Director James Comey said during an interview with BBC Newsnight this week that President-elect Joe Biden should “consider” pardoning President Donald Trump as Democrats continue their second impeachment attempt mere days before he is slated to leave office.
“I obviously think he belongs in jail, but I don’t think pursuing that is in the best interests of the entire nation, so I think the wiser decision would be not to pursue him,” Comey said during his appearance, emphasizing that Biden should explain his decision — whatever it is — to the American people.
“Be transparent about why you’re doing what you’re doing,” he said.
When asked if he thought Biden should pardon Trump “as Ford did Nixon,” Comey said he did not know but that Biden “should at least consider it.”

Hahahaha. All that would be is a publicity stunt. Trump should refuse.

You never know what he is going to say next. Trump was right when he labeled him a nutjob.

Wait...the former Director of the FBI thinks the Sitting President did something worthy of being in jail, but he ALSO doesn't think it should be pursued?
What in the actual frick?
Look...I DON'T think he did anything that warrants being in jail, but if I DID I sure as shite would want him there! How the hell can we have the type of government we expect if you've got the former head of the FBI suggesting actual criminals ought not be in jail because reasons?

If Biden did that, he'd have a mutiny on his hands.
Trump is a marked man and the left won't rest until they've exhausted every attempt to bankrupt and/or jail him and his entire family.

trump should pardon himself and his family and keep it all secret. per NPR, scholars are split on whether or not he could do that. worth a shot.

Are you referring to me? I simply asked a question. It would seem odd that if Trump is legit considering pardoning himself that he would "refuse" a pardon by Biden.
Side note: I don't think anyone can technically "refuse" a pardon.
ETA: See below. I stand corrected. You can refuse a pardon.

I totally get where you're coming from. Personally, I'm tired of the investigations and turmoil. I sincerely hope that come Jan. 20th, they just stop with all the allegations/investigations/etc. with Trump. I think the country as a whole would be better off just going forward.

Depends on which anonymous source close to the situation you listen to.

I'm tired of faux concern and investigations that only exist for political theater. However, if actual crimes were committed, I don't want them brushed under the rug.
Maybe...and I'm just spit-balling here...if we reserved investigations and turmoil for real reasons, then when we might have an need for them we would not be tired of them and just decide to call it a day. Instead, we spent four solid years of this and even now, instead of just walking away Comey takes a shot that "Yeah...he ought to be in jail, but I love the country too much to put us through any of that" bullshite.

A person can refuse a pardon
United States v. Wilson, 32 U.S. (7 Pet.) 150 (1833), was a case in the United States in which the defendant, George Wilson, was convicted of robbing the US Mail, and putting the life of the carrier in danger, in Pennsylvania and sentenced to death.Due to his friends' influence, Wilson was pardoned by Andrew Jackson.
The pardon included the following condition:
...with this express stipulation, that this pardon shall not extend to any judgment which may be had or obtained against him, in any other case or cases now pending before said court for other offences wherewith he may stand charged.
Wilson, however, refused the pardon. The Supreme Court was thus asked to rule on the case.
The decision was that if the prisoner does not accept the pardon, it is not in effect: "A pardon is a deed, to the validity of which delivery is essential, and delivery is not complete without acceptance. It may then be rejected by the person to whom it is tendered; and if it is rejected, we have discovered no power in this court to force it upon him."
As a result of refusing the pardon, Wilson was hanged.
