My dad set up surround sound when I was little. I believe the first movie I saw with it was Star Trek Generations on the laser disc. It was awesome.

Swordfish when Travolta blows all that shite up and those ball bearings went everywhere. Or final destination 2 when the logs come off the truck.

The techno music scene at the beginning of Blade is worth setting a reminder for on cable. I've done it, watched the beginning, then moved on to something else.

Another one for great sound from the beginning is Backdraft 1991. Backdraft opening scene on YouTube

Lawnmower Man is one I liked to play for the sound too. Wish I'd seen it in a theater. Trailer on YouTube

Dangerous Ground (1997) with Ice Cube and a trashy Elizabeth Hurley has some great action scenes set to music. Trailer on YouTube

The Replacement Killers (1998) is another one with action set to good music. Trailer on YouTube

I remember when this came out on home video, and my cousin had it. And in his room he had a nice stereo, and had his VCR hooked up to it. And I watched JP just in stereo and was amazed at sounds coming from all around me.

Since it hasn't been nominated yet, I'll throw out Heat. The bank robbery scene is one of the GOAT surround sound scenes.

“Apocalypse Now” helicopter scene!!!

Back in the late 80’s, friend of mine had state of the art laser disc, $5000 home theater set up, etc.

He’d play this scene and it was unbelievable.

THIS!!! The bank shootout scene, to this day, is an eargasm waiting to happen. The rest of Michael Mann's movies are all great, acoustically.

Last of the Mohicans
Collateral
Miami Vice

Also, not a Mann film, but Open Range is great, sound wise. Then of course there is The Matrix

Currently, Star Trek, and the Bond films are all great sound wise.
