Should pro sports ditch the draft to solve tanking issues?

Tanking has become quite popular in all major sports, why not ditch the draft and just give teams a rookie class budget and make everyone a FA.
This is essentially what college sports do with recruiting, but all scholarships have the same value(in theory ). With a pool of money, it would work more like FA and you wouldn't see as much of the stockpiling of talent by top programs like you see in college.
At this point, the draft just seems antiquated and reduces the flexibility of management...and players for that matter

Will never happen. Draft excitement is what keeps 25-30% of fans engaged over the last half of the season. That plus the draft itself is the NFL’s big Spring Event, not only the weekend itself but countless of hours and pages of previews and coverage.
No one actually cares about tanking in terms of viewership. Meaning no one is going to decide to watch the 2-12 jets because they’re “trying” as opposed to “tanking.”

Lakers would get first choice on who they wanted every year

I don't see what the big deal is with tanking. You are trading winning now for the possibility of winning later. You still have to make the right moves in order to have success later.

Sports is the one place where communism works.
Doing this would turn every league into an extreme version of the NBA. Only glamour teams would get all of the players. All of the best rookies would sign with a few teams, and take less to do so in the hopes of parlaying being with an elite franchise into a 2nd big contract.
No one would ever sign with fly over teams.

They have the lottery in the NBA and NHL and teams don't really tank in the NFL and MLB. The Jets had all the incentive in the world to tank yet they didn't. Players and coaches are looking out for their next contract and professional future. They aren't going to give less effort and throw away games so their team can get a "generational player" in the draft.

I suggested that for the NBA for years. You still have roster limits and a salary cap

its really not a big deal in the NFL, its fun to talk about and if you are a fan of a team that's bad its a silver lining but its also grossly overrated, you can rebuild a team no matter where you pick in the NFL. Look at the QBs for these final 8 teams and we can leave out Brady the mother of all exceptions
Mahomes was pick 10, Allen was the 3rd QB drafted his draft, Jackson was the 5th in the same draft and him and Brees were the 32nd pick. Rodgers was picked 23. Only Mayfield of the remaining teams went #1 and that surprised many.

They just need to improve the formula for selecting the draft order.
It's a complicated problem but I know they can do better than simply lining up the teams by record, because all games are not equal.
Games played while teams are still playoff eligible need to count the most, those are when both teams are trying their hardest. Those need to be weighted the most.
