Should have bought an STI
Posted on 1/18/21 at 8:26 pm to LSUDUCKMAN67
STI (now Staccato) has taken quite a tumble as well

DW is probably my favorite nice-but-workhorse 1911.

DW makes great stuff without getting into the crazy pricing or wait times

Well. I looked at the DWs today and at $2200-2400, that’s quite the leap from $800.
Beautiful guns no doubt and I get they’re superior, but all it takes is money.
At $850 out the door and the initial impression I had today, I’m good.
May consider the Wilson and DW later on if I have the gumption.

you can get some in the 1100-1700 range, those are quality too
I really want to play with a DWX but haven't been able to find one

I own a Wilson, Kimber, and Nighthawk. I have no problem with my Kimber. Its a great gun that i paid $1,000 for.
My co worker had a Nighthawk Custom 1911 and we took it to the range. When you shoot a Nighthawk, all other 1911 triggers will feel like shite. Again, nothing wrong with the Kimber, its a great gun, but the Nighthawk is a "One gun, one gunsmith" weapon.

Sell all of those and get a Volkmann

I don't own one, but I will down the road. My dream pistol. Luke's a gunsmith's gunsmith, his work is 2nd to none. When you call, he answers the phone. One man operation

I've never seen one in person. I think they are beautiful works of art. I have no doubt they are a quality weapon, but there is NO WAY the trigger on that is better than a Nighthawk

I think you'd be surprised , they're very good
splitting hairs at this level of gun, though. I've run STI, Nighthawk, and Triarc in competitions and they're all right there with one another. A Volkmann or Stan Chen level gun is something else though. I do think Nighthawk has surpassed Wilson and love their work. Probably my favorite semicustom 1911

Don't get me wrong, Id love to shoot one. Im sure the trigger is fantastic as well. It was such a shock to me going from a "good" trigger on a Kimber, to a "Great" trigger on a Nighthawk. What's the wait time for a Volkmann?
Posted on 1/19/21 at 10:27 am to Tic44
1-2 years. I think Stan Chen is up to 5 years

Not terribly hard to work on a 1911 trigger.
A little polishing on a couple of parts and a little trial and error with a spring and you're good to go.
I've reworked all of mine.
My 2011 trigger is almost as good at the Triggertech on one of my rifles.
