re: Why does O show his cards?

I just don't think Orgeron has a clue when it comes to hiring coaches, and maybe even he realizes it.
On offense, he just has his personal assistant call Joe Brady. Orgeron apparently doesn't even take the time to make the calls himself. Brady recommends two guys, and Orgeron hires them. O maybe put in a few hours on the whole thing.
Freeman's name was all over this board, so I'm sure Derek saw it. Orgeron (or perhaps Derek) sets up a meeting and Orgeron proclaims Freeman as his top choice without ever meeting him.
Brady is the only good hire Orgeron has made, and he just happened to be standing right in front of Orgeron.
His hires have been horrible and cost millions of dollars to try to correct his mistakes. As energetic as Orgeron is on the recruiting trail, he's lazy when it comes to hiring coaches. A couple phone calls by his personal assistant seems to be the extent of the search.

Holy made up narrative Batman.
Man this is good.

More importantly can we get names marked that had Freeman as a lock. Including media cause they have no credibility.

Well, we know Derek made the calls to Brady. Orgeron told us that. He said he asked Brady who could run his offense. Brady gave him two names. Orgeron hired them. He told us all that.
You think he actually looked around the country and researched defensive coordinators? His actions heretofore tell us he never does that.

Exactly, Derek is creating the list. I trust him more anyway....

Who cares. That’s not why we didn’t land freeman

You can’t be naive enough to think LSU didn’t realize Freeman was probably a long shot, especially after seriously entering Notre Dame. The guy has coached 11 years and Always coached in either Ohio or Indiana (Purdue). He’s from Ohio, played college ball in Ohio. He’s in his 30’s with young kids. That scenario screams of a long shot hire given the close to home ND offer.

He is like a 25 year old walking into a car dealership for the first time with enough credit to buy whatever he wants.

Coach O needs to be taught on how to communicate information via the media like his players. This is about the 5th time or more he said things to the media that was unnecessary within the past eight months. See below:
1. Showing support for Governor Bel Edwards and standing by his side at an event. That upset many Republicans and Democrats as for who team he was on back then. You cannot be on both sides of the fence.
2. Publicly supporting the President on national tv via Fox News. That was a slap in many of his players’ face. This was the first occurrence of losing the locker room.
3. A Spring Practice football comment to the local media: “Coach Pelini”s defense is better than last year’s defense.” That was a direct shot at former Coach Aranda who helped him win his first National Championship. That was LOW!
4. Pretending to know nothing about a BLM walk among some players and coaches to the local media. Now he lost the locker room. When you have some former players’ you recruited chimed in on you for your silence, that is not good. Coach O prevailed at the end.
5. Then announcing his top OC and DC candidates to the media - his power went to his head. Anyone that accepts the DC job knows he was not equally appraised as Coach Freeman. That action will cost LSU to overpay for a DC going forward.
No business man or an CEO plays his hand that way to the media or anyone. He has gotten burned several times by showing his arrogance.
I want to see the man successful, but he is creating his own drama via his mouth. Last note, one year during Coach O’s radio show, someone mentioned Halloween was forthcoming and he replied, “Halloween, I did not even know that it was this week.” Man you are not working that damn hard not to know, see or hear people discuss Halloween during the week.
He needs to work on sounding more believable before he is not taken serious anymore. Get it together, Coach O.

I wanted Freeman, but it’s not the end of the world we didn’t get him. I’m more annoyed that O showed his cards like that. Just makes him and LSU look bad.
Let me ask you guys this that keep repeating this same shite over and over and over with Coach O. Do any of y'all really think that if he didn't mention any names that no names would be mentioned at all?
Y'all are kidding yourselves! The names would be leaked and known regardless! Then what, y'all blame the media for leaking it? An inside source leaking it? The blame game can go on and on and on forever!

I'm sure the names would be leaked. They almost always are. I just don't know of any other coach who goes on a local radio show and blurts out who his number one choice is, especially when he's never even met the guy. I've never heard of any other coach doing that.
In the end, no damage done. Orgeron can still get a great coordinator. It just makes him look like the goofy cartoon character other people believe he is.

He can't help himself. He likes to talk.

O is just honest. And if a grown man's ego is weakened by not being the previous favorite then I don't want him as DC.

At the time, I didn't like him saying what he said on the radio, but after yesterday, I think it's pretty obvious LSU wasn't Freeman's first choice. I think this was more Orgeron recruiting his guy rather than him showing his cards. I don't think it's any different than when he alludes to specific recruits through the media.

Why do you show your arse when there is no benefit to exposing your crack?
Posted on 1/9/21 at 2:08 pm to WDAIII
Which is it? He is stupid for announcing his top choice.
Or he is brilliant for keeping his next choice/choices secret.
Either way he is a dunce?

Because people on this site insist that he let them know what he is doing every second when it comes to recruiting, game planning or hiring.
Their curiosity won’t allow him to do things in secret like most other colleges do.

WDAIII- Because he can’t help himself. He needs a publicist O can’t seem to get out of his own way.

He’s horrible with this and thinks coaches are as easily manipulated as some immature high school kid. Ed is a college recruiter for players. His job recruiting actual coaches is pretty bad.
Coaches see the bullshite for what it is. They aren’t going to make a decision because you try to make them seem so important. Even the kids are seeing through his bullshite on the recruiting trail.
No one is saying you can’t have a preferred/top candidate you really want, but saying something that is totally unnecessary publicly just to try and manipulate the guy does way more harm than good.l, especially when you just fired the guys you hired last season.
Likely same crap that O pulled with Gilbert in his press conference. It does no good and likely makes things worse.
Yes, the other guys are fall back options for your top choice, but now that you publicly stayed otherwise, they know it and have leverage. Master negotiator.
