China is scared af of India.

Maybe it was all that kung fu fighting they did in a disputed area recently.

I'd rather see population trends and ages. I assume India isn't slowing down, but Japan, SK, and even Aus are.

Neither did I but, in hindsight, splitting the USSR up into about 18 different countries kind of screwed a lot of the counts.

Best stat on earth:
Air craft carriers
USA - 20
China - 2

Many of our allies have four each.

Even then that land mass is huge that the soviets controlled relative to population density.

Only because we’ve afforded ourselves the ability to spread out, and have the space to do so.
“Metro area” is a western phenomenon.

And a lot of that is a function of population / available square mileage.

Canada has a lot of people concentrated in small areas but that’s because huge chunks of the country are a fricking frozen wasteland like Nunavut.

US? Most of the land within the country is livable at least east of the Mississippi. It gets more problematic in the west due to water availability.

Yeah, even most of China is relegated to the north China Plain. I bet we might even have more inhabitable sq mileage. Maybe...

I once read that 90% of the pop in Canada lives w/in 100 miles of the US border

eh, depends. But yeah, a lot of China is mostly uninhabitable due to the Gobi desert and Himalayan mountains.

But the Great Basin in the US is a pretty tough habitat as well...and Alaska is a whole different animal.

Russia proper would be far more populous had they not lost so many in WWII, and the purges.
