Al Richardson may be the best linebacker fo ever play at LSU. Eric Hill wasn’t far behind. I would rank Richardson ahead of Shep, Capone, James and White.

Definitely debatable. Al Richardson is certainly deserving of consideration. Hard to leave off a two-time All-American in Capone, though, especially since he was the best player on some great Tiger defensive teams. Richardson meanwhile played along side Lawrence Williams and Rydell Melancon, two other really good linebackers. Arguably the best LSU linebacker group ever.

Seriously. Any list that doesn’t include Tyrann Mathieu is just wrong.

Id only change one thing, and shout it out if you agree. Toss LF7, and bring back...

CEH.

Edit: Hes literally the embodiment of the name Fighting Tigers. The rest of the team did amazing against bama but it was CEH that took a new step that day and decided he wouldn't be denied no matter what. I was more proud of CEH then maybe any Tiger ever. Thats the spirit of a running back. And he had more spirit then any rb ive ever seen.

Clyde is a true Fighting Tiger

I identify with that list.
Its too bad that Brooks didn't have the benefit of present day medical technology to repair his injured knee.

I agree.
That 400 tackles in 3 seasons is flat out ridiculously impressive. Then there was that 21 against SCe. He could just shed blocks and make tackles.

If you love front 7’s, the 1986 team was the best I’ve seen in the last 60+ years watching LSU football. That includes the Williams and Co group from the early 2000’s. This is an absolutely ridiculous NFL roster of talent:

Linebackers (Greatest ever IMO)
Eric Hill
Michael Brooks
Toby Caston
Ollie Lawrence
Ron Sancho
Nicky Hazard

Dline
Henry Thomas
Karl Wilson
Karl Thomas
Karl Dunbar
Tommy Clapp
Ronald Barbay

The Safety that people forget about is Greg Jackson. He was brilliant in college and Pro’s.

Good list. I was not born in 2000, missed it by 42 years, but the only name I might add to show my age in Tommy Casanova at DB, although I would have no argument with Peterson or Mathieu. Before Burrow I would have picked Bert Jones at QB but he is now #2. I could add Billy Cannon at RB since he played during my lifetime, but I won't since I was one year old on Halloween 1959.

Billy’s Cannon and Jim Taylor were before my lifetime, too. As was Y.A. Tittle. The latter two are in the NFL Hall of Fame.

Patrick Peterson was a better corner than Mathieu, and Michael Brooks was a better linebacker than White, but maybe you weren’t around for Brooks.
