If ed can get him to come the players are going to absolutely love him
Former player and special teamer
Can recruit his arse off
Ohh and he can coach
Really hope he can pull him cause this will change things for lsu's defense

He is a top notch candidate. 34 is young, but he also has a wealth of experience already. If he is the guy, no rationale fan should have a problem with the hire.

That’s a noun. “Rational” is the word for fans we don’t have.

Nah. He'll be on the Ole Miss sidelines for sure.

He is not coming here. He is a Luke Fickell guy who will take over at Cincinati or go with Fickell to his next location if he doesn't. Him and Fickell have already turned down numerous good offers to go elsewhere, including both turning down MSU.

No, but Michigan State University cerainly isn't a bad job, and usually very good defensively. He did turn down his alma mater 2 years ago when Ryan Day took over (albeit as LB coach) and probably would have have been elevated to DC this year if Jeff Hafley hadn't been given the BC HC job.

it’s been a couple decades, but a HC has left them for us before.

He may or may not come here but he didn't turn down the MSU job, Fickel did. Also, LB coach isn't quite the same as LSU DC. Let's look at our past DCs, who all got HC jobs at major colleges. Muschamp, Pelini and Aranda. Its a great opportunity for him, better than Cinci HCIW, if he succeeds here he'll be a HC at a power 5 school within 4 years.

Exactly, a DC position at LSU is one of those jobs that projects to an HC job at a P5 school, or in the case of Joe Brady an NFL OC job.

Well in 2020 I have to come to think there are 2 extreme positions when it comes to these types of hires, a Marxist BLM perspective that says it has to be Black and some old Jim Crow mentality that says it has to be White.
I really have no use for either ideologies. There is nothing wrong with Marcus Freeman's resume. Nothing, nothing. I think the world of Corey Raymond but he has never called a defense and the reality is Freeman went from LB coach to Co DC/LB coach at Purdue, a Big 10 P5 job to now being the DC at Cincinnati, who is clearly with Memphis and UCF, the cream of the crop of the G5 programs.
So it seems Freeman demonstrated something that resulted in 2 schools giving him the DC position and moved him up from pure position coach. No other school has ever made that attempt for Corey. Now, if you get a hire that you can find a way to make Corey Co-DC, might work, but it is clear Coach Freeman has the resume to do the job.

While I am no Saint, far from it, and don't get preachy with people on football sites, as I am about to head to Mass/Liturgy with the Wife to celebrate birth of Christ, I still have hope that we all can do better, me of course included in that number at the top of the list.

He’s not coming. He’s getting coach in waiting money.

I agree this is a good resume boost job for him but I am afraid he will be hard to get out of Ohio. Went to HS in Ohio, went to OSU, coaching in Ohio under his former OSU coach... just waiting to be called home I guess.
Here are some quotes from back in Sept 2020 on Yahoo Sports...
quote:
A source close to the negotiations confirmed Monday night that Cincinnati defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman has agreed to a new two-year contract that will pay the 34-year-old assistant $600,000 in the first year.
The new deal is a $75,000 privately-funded raise for Freeman, who also coaches the linebackers for UC.
quote:
The contract comes a couple of weeks after the university announced an extension for Fickell that keeps him at the helm of the Bearcats football program through 2026.
quote:
Michigan State also made an attempt to hire Freeman away from Cincinnati in February after Mel Tucker agreed to be the Spartans head coach. Tucker was interested in making Freeman his defensive coordinator. Tucker was Ohio State's co-defensive coordinator when Freeman was a freshman linebacker for the Buckeyes.
"I have a high level of respect for Mel Tucker," Freeman told The Enquirer in July. "But ultimately, I have goals, personal goals, and one of those is wanting to be a head coach, and I believe I don't need to leave the University of Cincinnati to achieve that goal. I'm in a great position as the defensive coordinator here at Cincinnati to one day be in position to be a head coach, and going to Michigan State didn't make me feel like I was going to be any more closer to it.

Yeah, the more I look at him, the more I think he is a B10 guy & may not have SEC interest.
