1. No matter how great your skill players are, your ultimate success rests more on the big uglies that protect them and give them the opportunity to show that skill.
2. No matter how great the talent, unimaginative coaching limits the final result.
3. No matter how limited the talent (whether because of inexperience or just physical shortcomings), imaginative coaching plus some real effort and perseverance can still win games.
4. The true sign of an elite program is one that wins a championship but somehow manages to be just as hungry to repeat.
5. 2019 will always be the standard by which great seasons are measured. (And no matter how great the play calling seemed, without Burrow and his jugs machine fanatic receivers, some of those play calls wouldn’t have succeeded and wouldn’t have seemed quite so clever).

In 2019 we had all world players at the skill positions and we had an above average OL at best. So this theory is debunked.

Sure but I think our issues this year were more on the communication between coaches and players and between the players themselves. Doesn’t matter how imaginative you are if no one knows what the frick they are doing.

Idk if I buy this one. You can’t coach experience or talent. Yes I believe that coaching can make up for some shortfalls in those areas but it can’t replace it completely.

Yes I believe this is true and I believe that every program has to go through that post first natty slump to get there. Ours was clearly worse but Clemson and Bama both had down years the year after their first natty. Clemson happened to make the playoff cuz the ACC is pathetic but they still took a noticeable step back that year.

I agree with this for LSU but I don’t think Bama or anyone else will use the 2019 tigers as a measuring stick.

Until LSU starts bringing in quality and quantity OL recruits, it will not matter who we have as coaches or what skilled players we have. This has been a issue almost every year since LM.

Lol, no. In 50 years they will think of 2019 the way we think of 1958.

Well, as much as they may have been true before this season started, Alabama is improbably only 2 games away from possibly topping the LSU 2019 season.

What about this is new?

What about this even applies to LSU football.

No... Imaginative coaching...please define... will have a very hard time with 19 new starters and no spring....When you lose your starter and have to play true freshman QBs. the playbook gets really thin. Obviously they started to let Johnson read and process and make a play. Against Florida a bunch of his passes were called.

No... limited talent and good coaching gets beat senseless by the teams we are competing with BAMA Georgia Florida TAM Ohio State and Clemson.

Compared to Alabama LSU is not elite. Compared to just about everyone else LSU is elite or very close. IT will take several more recruiting classes and a culture change about juniors leaving for LSU to be on Alabama's level. Miles let the line of scrimmage go done really far.

No 2019 is not the standard to be measured by. Completely unrealistic.

Yes the line of scrimmage being at a high level is table stakes to beat Bama, Florida, Georgia. LSU had an average at best defensive line in 2019. Talent wise our O line was a notch below Bama in 2019.

Burrow pre snap reads...protection calls... quick progressions... moving in pocket and good release...made that team. Burrow destroyed teams late and over the middle. Brennan and Finley especially had trouble finding that crossing receiver. Max went through his progressions and found the mid level crossing route over and over. Max also called protections very well. Johnson showed the play calls are still there.

The offense is not very different than Alabama scheme wise. M Jones gets to stand behind that line for 5 seconds or more so all of the routes develop. Completely different situation.

I don't really get the unrealistic negativity
