I remember Nicholson being pissed that Ledger was playing the joker.

This may be one of the only Cruise movies I did not enjoy in any way outside of the hot female co-star. Can’t say this about many Cruise movies of late, but lord it was boring.
I’ll go with MM in Mud. His resurgence. Didn’t think he had that kinda role in him.

I remember being shocked to see Brad Pitt in such a small role in True Romance.
He was just coming off of A River Runs Through It and was set for leading man status.
Instead he takes a backseat to Christian Slater (apparently Pitt was offered the lead but wanted to play the stoner).
A year later Interview with a Vampire, Legends of the Fall and then Seven come out.
It was such a strange interlude in his rise to stardom.

For me it is Julianne Moore in Boogie Nights.

These threads always make me wonder what Chris Farley’s first serious role would have been.

Natalie Portman in that Danny McBride silly fantasy movie.

I think she wanted to do something light and silly after the deep twisted darkness of Black Swan.

Bill Murray - Garfield

He was trying to make either a Fatty Arbuckle biopic or Confederacy Of Dunces.
Those projects are always on development hell because every fat man in Hollywood drops dead of a heart attack or OD.

Joaquin Phoenix - Joker. I didn't think he'd do it. I guess you can add Ledger as well. Nicholsons Joker was beloved. It was considered suicide to try and take on that role.
Ummmm, I remember being quite pissed when Ledger was announced for the Joker and Phoenix didn't get it. It was a role Phoenix was born to play.

It's easy to look at it now as a role everyone wants. But before Nolan, Nicholsons performance was considered untouchable. It's pretty funny looking back on it now, because he's probably only better than Leto
Dude, Nicholson was not seen as untouchable after the Joker. Yeah, it was entertaining, but he didn't truly embody the role. Within 5 years people were saying Mark Hamill was a better Joker than he was.

If you'd have told me in 2008 that Robert Pattinson would one day be Batman, I probably would have kicked you in the balls

Honestly I would say most actors in these comic book roles.
I mean...
Anthony Hopkins in Thor
Cate Blanchet in Thor
Michael Douglas in Ant Man
Michael Caine somewhat for Batman
If Meryl Streep, Daniel Day Lewis or Denzel pops up in one..man

Michael J. Fox in Casualties of War. I thought it was weird and brilliant casting.
*What does Sean Penn say to him? " You dien cai dau, man. You beaucoup dien cai dau!"

Just to second Robert Pattinson, I find myself looking forward to his roles now after Tenet, The Lighthouse, and the new Netflix movie. Great actor. Crazy to say that.
