Tipping, in general, isn't something that is a complex issue, yet there are some on here who struggle with it.

I just struggle with how to declare it on my taxes.

Subway I don't think has a tip line (but I haven't been there in forever). Zoes doesn't have a tip line but I'll leave a couple ones on the table when they come clean up. Places like Newks, etc. which are fast casual but not drive through I will usually go about 10%.

They are working through Covid and exposing themselves and their families to the virus, so you can eat a sandwich or taco. Be a good human. If you can afford to tip, I believe you should. If you can't, then don't.

Oh stop. They are working to get a paycheck and could care less about their customers wants. At no point have any of them woken up and thought "that today I will risk exposure because ToroTiger is hungry".

No on tipping at the fast food place....will only encourage the workers to remain in the job. Harsh but true...

I do tip in sit down establishments and delivery drivers very well though....waiting tables in a semi decent restaurant aint a bad way to earn a living money wise and delivery drivers are doing me a huge favor...I generally tip pretty well...about 20-25% at restaurants and up to 100% for a delivery driver...if the order is small

Remember "Third Rock from the Sun"?

The next time you go to Subway, have a fist full of dollars and tell them that is their potential tip, and every time they displease you while they make your sandwich, you take a dollar away.

That’s my point. They need to expose themselves and their family to go to work and make me a sandwich, as you point out: In order to earn the paycheck. It’s mostly about the paycheck. The fact that they may not know or care about me personally doesn’t change the risk they face everyday from me and others. I tip to provide additional compensation for making me a sandwich during a pandemic. If you disagree, that’s fine. But I won’t accept your premise that none of them ever care about their customers. People are better than that. Many of them do care. And tipping during this time of year should be highly encouraged even in the absence of a pandemic. Again, just be a good human. Tip if you want. Don’t if you don’t.

It’s pretty simple. If there was no tip line on the receipt, would you still tip? The answer should tell you what is appropriate.

That being said, I am tipping businesses I wouldn’t normally have tipped since the pandemic started because I want them to stay open.

I may drop my coin change in the bucket, but that is all. Too many people are expecting a tip for nothing.

I went to a Mexican style restaurant tonight. A guy is my server and takes ten minutes to bring my drink. I had an ok meal but the server is leaning by the register and checking his phone the whole time. His coworkers are busting arse with other customers. The guy never checks on me and never refills my drink. Just hands me the check. I’m pissed at this point and I just give him a 20 % tip on a $25 meal.

Had it been a sexy female waitress that refilled my drinks, I would have tipped about 40 %. This dude tonight needed to step his fricking game up. This restaurant was in Gonzales.

If you tip her, is she still going to skimp on the meat? I stopped going to these establishments because I would never purposefully order a big lettuce sandwich.

I miss the Pastime.
