You walk up in line, wait for the server to build your meal. You make it all the way through, and at checkout, you get a receipt with a tip line to put a tip amount. do you put one or scratch a line through it?

i typically scratch a line through it because the ordering process is no different than McDonalds or Burger King. Why should places like Subway or Chipotle be any different?

i also get an empty cup when i that i have to fill on my own once i complete my purchase and anytime i need a refill. is this fair to actual servers at real restaurants where tipping is normal?

Meh. It’s different from McDonald’s or Burger King because there is only 1-2 people entirely in charge of your sandwich.

I believe you mean, for the sandwich artist to hand craft your meal.

So she just did her job? You tip them when you see them sweep the floor too?

Just messing with you. But screw tipping. It's out of control and I don't partake much anymore.

Anyway, they should be damn thankful I'm walking in to their store to spend $9 on a damn sandwich or burrito.

At many of these places, the sales receipt includes a tip line, even though the place doesn’t intend to have employees collect tips. At those places, the tips may just go back to the owners. So, you are just paying $2 more for that burrito that was already $12.

it is the chipotle next to my neighborhood bar i frequent on weekends after i stumble out on several white claws and a few hours of football.

some times you gotta grease people eddie, and they will remember that idiot who comes in on weekends in jerseys and give me extra meat.

i think the real issue is no one carries much cash anymore and it can be an inconvenience to tip on card in certain instances.

i try to keep a few loose bills to tip the cart boy at the golf course, the beer cart girl, restaurant staff etc.

Tipping, in general, isn't something that is a complex issue, yet there are some on here who struggle with it.
