My wife mentioned the other day she'd like a knife to carry around with her as an EDC. Any recs?

Kershaw Scallion or Chive is really a great EDC for anyone, even my left handed carry situation.

I'd recommend a Swiss Army knife cadet alox.
It really depends on how she intends to use it.

Best is in the eye of the beholder. Some women are going to want a stylish knife in a certain color, others will want a small knife, and some women are probably looking for the same type of knife as a hard-working country baw.
My wife has a Spyderco Dragonfly and a Spyderco Ladybug. The FRN handles are in colors she likes, but she really just wanted a small knife that was easy to operate.

My wife has a Kershaw Chive, the only time she carries it is when hunting. She likes it and doesn't have enough experience to carry a non locking knife.

I don't suggest a knife for self defense if that's the intended purpose. Maybe as an absolute last resort, but never as a primary means. You have to get too close to use it effectively, and most stabbings are survivable. You really have to go all out to kill someone, and that's why you hear of these attacks with 27 stab wounds. It wasn't just rage, its that you have to hit the correct areas to kill someone with one stab, so more is generally better. The Mickey Shunik case out of Lafayette is something to look at. She was stabbed 5-7 times in the chest, she played dead, and then grabbed his knife and stabbed him in the arm and neck. The neck stab missed his artery by 2 CM, and he was still able to kill her, bury her, and drive to New Orleans from Lafayette to a hospital.

Don't think she wants it for self defense as much as for a tool. She said she hates having to ask to borrow my knife or ask someone at work to use theirs, so she wants her own

It definitely needs to be one that she can tell what to do at all times, also it has to be a good listener, and be able to up with unnecessary bullshite all the time.

Bugout is a good option.
I bought mine a BM 531 Pardue as a second line self defense.
She's a medical professional, I asked how long of a blade she'd need to cut a femoral on a large male wearing carhartt overalls. It fit the bill.

The one she can make a sandwich with.
My wife carries an Ontario Rat II. She has not tested it on sandwiches. Or me. Yet.
