I am looking for a body of water close to BR to do some boat break in. My Fishfinder/GPS is on back order and I won't have my Shallow water anchors or trolling motor on, I just want to go spend some time on the water. Priorities.

1. Easy to use boat launch that I won't be holding people u if I decided to launch and retrieve the boat several times. (will do this during the week)
2. Safe area to boat without GPS! Easy to navigate, not littered with underwater obstacles, Cell service on the water is a big plus.
3. Close enough to BR...
4. Safe place to open it up once I get to the run wide open for less than 5 minutes at a time part of break in.

I know PLENTY of places I want to get in the water to fish, I honestly don't care if this body of water has a single fish in it!

Not sure how busy it is right now but the public launch just north of Middendorf's ain't too far. Plenty of room to run around Maurepas without losing sight of the bridge.

Launch at LA Express gas station in Jarreau on island side, False River. River level is finally back to normal. Launch should not be busy especially if it’s during the week.

Blind River/Amite River/Diversion Canal

Launch at Fred's in Port Vincent and head down the Diversion Canal. A little bit further drive, but prettier scenery, launch at St. James Boat Club on Airline and go down Blind River towards Maurepas. I think its about 18 miles to the lake, but probably 12-13 to the Diversion Canal? Can't get lost, and if you do, plenty enough service to use your maps on your phone. If you do a little research, you can find the loop down Blind River-Chinquapin Canal-Amite River-Diversion Canal-Petit Amite-Blind River. It's probably a 35-40 mile round trip, but there's places to stop and get gas, beer, and food along the way. Pretty good loop for boat riding and scenery, especially if you've never made that trip. Not too much boat traffic in the winter time compared to the summer.

Edit: Bonus, you won't have to worry about catching any fish unless you're running jugs or trot lines. No really any stumps or obstacles to worry about on that route. Plenty of big loud screaming ski and pontoon boats make that route on the reg all summer long. It gets a little on the narrow side in a couple places on the north end of Petite Amite and the cut over to Chiquapin Canal, but just slow down in some of those areas if you're not familiar with the route. Still plenty of room for boats to pass each other even in the narrow sections. I broke in a new motor here last spring. Pick a pretty day and you can drive for hours at whatever speed you want. Several places along the route to stop and get a burger, beer, gas, or use the bathroom. It's also not a ghost town in case you get into any trouble.

Be aware that is a very steep launch if you do go there.

St James Boat Club would be perfect for what you're looking to do. Blind river leads out to Lake Maurepas.

Thanks, I'll be sure to check these out. I wish everything wasn't on back order right now...
