3 weeks ago when asked how a school like LSU could struggle

2 minutes long

quote:

So many of us are excuse makers, that’s just part of who we are and it shouldn’t be that way. When you see a team struggle, the first thing that the fans and the media blame are the players and then they blame the coaches.”

quote:

Never make excuses. When I was a coach, I would never let one of my coaches say, ‘He’s a bad player.’ I would warn him, ‘Say that again and you’ll probably have to leave,” because now you’re just making excuses. Dig deep and find out why.” “Every time that I have had a team struggle, every time, it has fallen into one of three categories; number one, there is some sort of trust issue. The player don’t trust the coach, or the coach doesn’t trust the players, or, often when the players don’t trust each other.” “Number two, it’s called a dysfunctional work environment. Where the expectations are really high, but we don’t work hard. The coach has to be really clear with his team and realize that is going to lead to frustration, anger, disappointment, because we want to win a championship, but I’ve got news guys…we’re not working hard. Your work ethic must exceed or equate your expectations.”

quote:

The third one is “You’ve got a selfish team, man…Football is an unselfish sport. You’ve got to do the nasty; that means as a running back you have to go protect your quarterback, you don’t always get to carry the ball. Sometimes you have to run down and cover the kickoff at 22 miles per hour, throw yourself into someone running the other way at 15 miles per hour. That’s not fun. Why would you do that? Because you love your team and your teammates.” “So when you hear teams like LSU, Penn State, and the Wolverines struggling, stop with the talk about bad players. I get so sick of hearing that. It’s not the players. I don’t think it’s the coaches. But there is something wrong. Lift the hood and find out one of those three things.”

“I don’t think it’s the players and maybe not the coaches BUT THERE’S SOMETHING WRONG”

Real coaches don’t make excuses. Young team, not hiring the right coordinator, Covid, etc are all excuses.

Louisiana politics have infested LSU and the AD. Why do you thing O got the job? Why do you thing Tom Galligan is going to be named permanent president of LSU? JBE. The ultimate result of Louisiana politics injecting themselves in to anything is a steaming pile of cow dung, which is what the university and the AD have become.

I think it’s a combo of all the things he mentioned

Players don’t respect O
O is distracted
Players acting selfish

It all goes back to O tho and eventually it is on Woodward

Still easily the most sought after coach on the market and could hand pick his next job.

Galligan was Dean of the Law School, and interim, doing National searchers right now are damn near impossible, lots of Universities around the country have no travel policies. In addition, with interim candidates vs outside candidates, there is a cost factor that ways in since to get someone to move from another University, you have to pay a premium for an administration position.

LSU has from what my sources tell me has tried to promote talented people from within to admin positions, people who were Assistant, Associate, Full Professors at LSU and then becoming Department Chairs, Associate Dean or Dean's of Colleges.

Politics has nothing to do with O getting divorced and then spending time on the Beach in Florida chasing 30 year old pu**y, did not force him to hire older coaches, Linehand, Bo, Bill Johnson, etc, and other things that he did to himself.

No. This is a guy with 3 national titles, can recruit with the best, took Utah to 12-0, and is a proven winner.

I wouldn't be surprised that if in coaching circles O has little to no value.

Not only is Urban the only other Head Coach that is anywhere near Saban's level, but he left OSU with a new HC who has gone 21-1 so far. I dislike the guy nearly as much as I dislike Saban, but he wins everywhere he goes.
