For the longest time I thought this was a TD inside joke, but it seems to have some truth.
Who are these ppl, and what area do they live?

The real question here is why didn't you post a picture of tomatoless gumbo with your dog in the background?

Depending on the type of gumbo.
A dark roux, thin, seafood gumbo: yes
It's reminiscent of cioppino. Just more earthy. Bouillabaisse without saffron.
But that is the only type of gumbo I put tomatoes in

Was flipping through a John Besh cookbook last night (My New Orleans) and I think all the gumbo recipes called for tomatoes or tomato paste. Was kind of surprised.

That looks like chicken noodle soup

Yes in seafood gumbo. Actually the only type of gumbo that is acceptable IMO. Chicken and sausage is a stew and not a gumbo. Also if no okra, it’s not a gumbo. Deal with it.

Is that supposed to be gumbo baw? Public school cafeterias in Minden make more authentic gumbo that that.

I just finished putting cheese puffs in it, all out of meat.

Fraud.
Born in MS and raised in Slidell, but always tried to claim he was "from" New Orleans.
