re: 6.5 Creedmoor

Last statement on this: the 6.5cm is not some magical laser beam of a round. It will not shoot 1000yds with zero drop. It is only a round that has had very good advertising and the bullet itself does better in the wind that other bullets for weight.
I’ve been able to push mine up to around 2900fps in reloads using 140gr bullets out of a 26” barrel.
Right now I’m shooting it to right around 2825fps.
Most factory loads are around 2700fps.
However, it’s the ballistic twin to the .260 and pretty danged close to the 6.5 swede.

Based on what? It's only 13 years old.

Just want to point out the hypocrisy of this post. The .270 wsm is traveling faster than a 6.5cm
Which is why i clearly said i use it and the 308. I take 308 99% of time unless hunting pipelines or midwest, then its the 270 wsm. The 160gr 270 wsm is devistating on deer, the 5 deer i shot with the barnes and 143gr eldx in 6.5 was less than desired.

Buddy just got one and used it in TX last week. No exit wound on deer. But it was a heart shot and it only went 30 or so yards. But he said not a drop of blood. He said he’s going back to his 30-06.

My son (9) has shot 3 deer with a 7mm08, and there has been complete pass through every time. I've shot 1 deer and several hogs with the same rifle and have gotten an exit wound every time. I've got a 6.5 but haven't even put a scope on it yet.

Daughter hasn’t had issue with her 7mm-08 and she’s shooting the reduced recoil loads. Glad I bought several boxes when I got her gun. Can’t find ammo anywhere. She and I are going on deer hunt next weekend. I may just shoot my TC smoke pole. No pass thru problems with it.

I only shoot laser beams.

308 and 7mm-08 are better suited for hunting.
Ballistically, they’re almost the same at hunting distances 400 and in
Tell us how they’re better. And the CM is far from a fad since the military’s picked it up. It’s a short action mild recoil round that delivers a lot of energy 500 yards and in.

It seems to be the bullets people are buying for the 6.5 creddmore miss the mark for hunting. The 6.5x55 built its spectacular reputation using 150+ grain soft points, which gives great penetration. I've only ever recovered one bullet from a deer, a 139gr PPU soft point shot at a hard quartering on deer from at the most 80 yards. Most expand well and ALWAYS exit.
You people who are hunting with the creedmore should be shooting minimum 140gr bullets, preferably 150+ to realize where the 6.5's shine on game. Its not a super long range hunting round, it's a great normal range hunting round.

Exactly.
Shoot one with Partitions or Accubonds and let me know what the exit looks like.
People badly need to google the muzzle velocity of the cartridge. One thing I love about it is the factory ammo is more consistently accurate than any cartridge I’ve shot.

I don’t know that the bullet weight matters as much as bullet type. It seems many of the popular bullets people are using are rebranded target bullets. I’d pick something between 120 and 140 in a traditional cup and core bullet. The Creedmore doesn’t produce velocities which are excessive for traditional bullets even at close range.

The ELDX fad needs to die. That thing is a rebranded A-Max that was introduced strictly to latch on to this creedmore fad
With the swede I've used 139 ppu soft points on a handful of deer and they've worked really well. Have also killed several deer with 140 core locks, 140 interlocks, 140 winchester soft points, and 140 federal soft points. All have performed perfectly. Good expansion, fantastic penetration.
I'm currently using 155gr lapua megas, which I expect also to do great.
You are correct, the creedmore is a normal velocity round and does great with normal construction bullets.

I’d add Sierra gameking to that too

Light recoil. Inherently accurate cartridge. Ammo is widely available and not expensive. I killed two does with it this morning at around 300 yards. One dropped, other went 30 yards
I have a .308, .270 and .300 wsm. Hunt deer almost exclusively with a 6.5 bergara rifle. I don’t see any advantage the other calibers I own would give me when I shoot my 6.5 the best

I’ve been using 6.5 for about 4 years. 143 ELD-X. Never any issue with deer. I’ve never lost one. Most go down within 50 yards. If I’m hunting woods with 100 yards or less I am hooked on my 300blk subsonic with Discrete Ballistic subsonic rounds. Devastating to deer under 100 yards and no one can hear me shoot.

As a rebranded target bullet? I'd agree with that.
I shot a doe with a 165 gr game king with a .30-06 at 165 yards. Bullet went in behind one shoulder and came out in a few pieces with some pieces staying in the deer. If you can't get an exit on a 100 pound doe hitting a rib bone with a .30-06, that aint worth using.
Lots of what I see on the shelf in creedmoor is labeled as some type of long range stuff.
I read reports of people not getting exits on deer from hornady ELD-x using a .338 win mag. Totally inexcusable

Shot a decent 8 point last year and had a good exit and blood trail. Shot a doe this year and bullet lodged under skin on opposite side with zero blood trail. I put it it the safe

I'm shooting 140 grain accubonds, and I have not had any issues yet.
Sorry, no pics

With what kind of bullets

Is the gameking not a cup and core soft point? If not, I stand corrected.
