Oleyeller,
That’s why it’s called the Cripplemore
Neat round if you do a lot of bench shooting. But at reasonable ranges, it doesn’t perform any better than a bunch of cartridges thatve been around for a while.

I haven’t read all the replies, but I went from a Remington 7400/7600 30-06, can’t remember which was the pump model, to a 6.5 creedmoor. Bought it last year and killed two deer with. They both dropped in their tracks. Don’t listen to the haters. It’s like any gun. Shot placement counts.

So it’s the cripplemore, but you argument is it doesn’t perform any better than other rounds?

It isn't. Shoot better bullets.

Read oleyellers post. Deer dragging off into the woods. It ain’t nothing special. Just a nice little cartridge.
Posted on 11/26/20 at 3:45 pm to 257WBY
Your hatred of a cartridge is apparent. Kind of weird.

Nothing weird about reading post like yellers, and knowing experienced hunters who shoot the Cripplemore and have deer drag off into the woods never to be found. It’s just nothing special.
The 6.5 CM is an answer to a question deer hunters never asked. We already had the Swede, .260, 7mm-08, .308, etc. At the range where you’re spinning turrets, it shines. In the field, it’s just another round. Certainly nothing to swap a .30-06 for.

So by your reasoning, the people at camp I know who use a 300 mag and have deer run off and never found are not experienced hunters? Most of the time they are making bad shots, I admit.
It’s all about shot placement no matter what caliber you use. Like I said earlier, the two I shot dropped in their tracks and they were less than 100yds.

So I’m assuming your thoughts on 6.5 PRC are the same as 6.5 Creedmoor?

257WBY has a hatred of the 6.5 Creedmoor that is irrational.
Apparently the 6.5 Creedmoor is a bad hunting round and better rounds already exist in the same caliber.

6.5 PRC is a little hotter 200 FPS , but still has mild recoil. PRC is the better choice.
6.5s shine with great ballistic coefficient at long range. Under 500 yards, you won’t tell any difference between a 6.5 and a .270, .280, 7mm-08, etc

Just get a .243 and be done with it.

But 6.5 Creedmoor is a bad hunting round. You are talking out both sides your mouth.

I love mine. 3 deer dropped and 1 ran 40 yards. I just feel like it’s a nice versatile round, but so are other calibers.

The marketing has been extremely over the top, giving a lot of people who have no business doing so the impression they can take 600 yard shots on deer. It’s no worse than any of the calibers listed loaded with the right bullets, but this thread is evidence that’s often not the case. Not the caliber’s fault but it is what it is. I’ve had a grown man tell me he replaced his 300 weatherby mag with a 6.5CM so he could take longer shots down power lines. Nothing irrational about shaking your head at that.

This is the reason that 257WBY hates the 6.5 Creedmoor IMO.
Advertisers are going to advertise.

It’s one of the best rifle rounds

Not saying everyone will have same results as me, but i just feel like the round is too damn hot for shorter ranges and doesnt get enough expansion before exit. I gave it a fair chance, but its back in the safe for deer. 308 and 270wsm will remain my deer rifles
Just want to point out the hypocrisy of this post. The .270 wsm is traveling faster than a 6.5cm

I love reduced recoil
How big are you? Do grown men really worry about recoil of a rifle? I’ve got a little meat on my bones, but I can’t tell the difference between a 30-30 and 30-06 when shorting at a deer.
