Some hidden foreign gems on Netflix

All of these are foreign so watch with subtitles.
Suburra. Italian crime drama, based on a true incident. Protagonists are 3 young guys late teens early 20's. One the son of a Roman crime boss, one the younger brother of a gypsy crime boss, and one the son of a cop. 3 seasons total. Mix of Roman underworld, Politics and the Church.
Fauda. Israeli show, about an elite counter terrorism task force. Fun show, tho the main character is far to undisciplined and flys of the handle to easy to ever be part of such a unit.
If you are a fan of period pieces on war and nation founding, like Last Kingdom and Vikings, there's a show out of Turkey called Ertugrul you may want to give a shot. Ertugrul was the father of Osman who founded the Ottoman Empire.
Now warning, this show is so heavy and over the top with Propaganda, that it will turn a lot of people off. It's almost comedic. The main group of Turks outside of a couple of characters, are essentially perfect in their honor and ethics, while the Templars are all grimy, subversive and weak.
That aside if you're like me, and interested in history and don't know a whole lot about the Ottomans, give it a shot.
Double warning. I'm like 70 episodes in, and still on season 1. There are 5 seasons, so the likelihood of finishing this isn't great. The main character is very well cast tho.
Omniscient. Brazilian show. Set in the near future where everyone in the city has an insect sized drone recording everything one does to eliminate crime. Starts of with the female protagonists father being killed, while she is an intern at the company which makes the drones.

I love foreign series but I didn't like any of them.
Try
No Man's Land: French man goes to find his sister fighting with the Kurds in Syria. It's in French, Kurd, Arabic and English
La Mafia Solo Uccide D'Estate: Mafia dark comedy in Sicily in the 70's through the eyes of boy (Italian)
La Revolution: French series during the revolution
El Candidato: Mexican series on the drug cartel and politics. James Purefoy is good

Yea, started it during lockdown in March. Would basically go for a 3 hour hike, then come come and watch Netflix and get fat.

Fauda is really good. Shows both sides of the story and unfortunate events

Undercover Season 2 just came out a week or so ago.
Dutch/Belgian crime drama with heavy suspenseful cliffhangers. It sort of like Ozark, but from the cops’ perspective. It’s really good.

Saw it. The lead and his significant others autistic son were the father and son team in "Better Than Us" which was another Netflix Russian Sci Fi show. I like the Russian shows but in terms of quality, they don't stand up to western products. But they can be entertaining.

Try Bordertown and Deadwind which are two Finnish murder mystery shows. And I just watched La Mante which is a French Netflix thriller. I'm getting to love these Netflix foreign shows.

I posted about this about 2 months ago. I really liked it. Wasn't sure if it made its way to U.S. Netflix yet.

I watched Black 47 last night and it was pretty good. Irish film that has the feel of a western.

I don’t see much talk about these foreign shows on this board. TTL is a little over the top in a Eastern European sort of way. But I’m looking forward to a renewal. And I started The Method (Russian) with Paulina Andreeva last night. She is a gorgeous woman.

Dark should be number 1 on your list. That show is badass.

The Kingdom - Korean zombies
My Country - At the end of the Goryeo period there are those who lead the charge to proclaim a new age, among them two friends who become enemies when they disagree on the direction of their country.
Both are very good.

Not really a foreign film since it was in English, but "The Impossible" was really good. Came out in 2012, detailing a true story of a survivor's account of the Indian Ocean Tsunami that hit in 2004. Several scenes very intense and gripping, and left my wife and I saying "we have to watch a comedy show before going to bed" because we were that sad/shaken by it. That to me says how good a job the director did.

My simple mind could not keep up with all the actors/characters. I literally used a chart and still had to pause every five seconds and say "who's that guy again?"
