Miami only has two games left with their third rescheduled for the day of the ACC championship. Miami is 6-1.

Clemson is also 6-1 with two games remaining, and talk of the FSU game being rescheduled for 12/12.

The current hypothetical is incorrect because as it stands, they will both have 9 conference games played before the ACC championship.

FSU didn’t feel comfortable playing due to potential asymptomatic spread from a backup lineman

It almost like we should just go ahead and cancel the 2020 season and let the Tide print their T-shirts and claim another NC - remember it means more to those clowns anyway

tiebreak comes into play if win pct is the same. It wouldn't be the same in this scenario

It will be the same. Both teams will have played 9 games with one loss by the time of the ACC championship.

Good move. This could’ve easily turned into a super spreader event that would kill everyone in Florida and South Carolina.

As long as Clemson plays their other two games, they should be good to make the ACCCG, even if they don’t play FSU.

quote:

However, for any team to be eligible for the ACC Football Championship Game, or to be considered in a tiebreaker, such team must have played within one (1) total conference game of the average number of conference games played by all conference teams (rounding up/down at .5) during the 2020 season. For example, if the average number of conference games played in the 2020 season is 9.25 (value of nine (9) when rounded down), a team would be eligible to participate in the ACC Football Championship Game, or be considered in a tiebreaker, if that team played eight (8) or more conference games. Furthermore, in the event there is an unequal total number of conference games played among teams tied in the loss column, head-to-head results will take precedence over win-percentage.

According to Gameday on ESPN, the dispute centers on one Clemson player. Apparently this player was showing symptoms of COVID but repeatedly tested negative, so he was going to travel/play. A third party test on this Clemson player turned up positive. That’s where the dispute has arisen.

Although I think that this is probably FSU trying to get out of a loss, I think that this is a really interesting situation. On one hand you can ask is the independent test a false positive? On the other, covid tests attempt to detect the virus at a single point in time and the viral load might not have been high enough for detection during the initial tests.

When I first saw this I thought that Clemson’s testing efforts might be compromised after losing Lawrence, but that is probably my inner conspiracy theorist talking. Nevertheless, it is fun to speculate!

Wow, helluva find. I wonder if that was quietly updated, because Clemson fans have been worried about this for weeks and never once seen that.

I guess I'm watching out of habit but it's hard to get interested in a season where games can be canceled mere hours before the game.

This is turning into the 1980's. You wake up and there's one game on in the morning, one in the afternoon...and there you go.

I agree. Both teams should be following the same ACC protocols, and if both followed them (ACC statement says both have adhered to the minimum ACC protocols), why are they unable to agree on playing the game?

Just guessing but FSU prolly trying to find any way out of it they can
