Unlike many of the O-T and many of my fellow Eagles, I didn't have any issue with the formation of girl troops. If they can achieve the rank of Eagle, they deserve the status of that.
So when I first saw this article, I thought, wow, pretty cool.
Then I started thinking about it. These girls were eligible to join in Feb 2019. It is now early October 2020. From Feb 2019 to Sept 2020 is 20 months. To go from entry to Eagle in 20 months is... rather fast.
To go from First Class to Star takes a minimum of 4 months, and to go from Star to Life and Life to Eagle is a minimum of 6 months each. So that's 16 months... assuming the ranks were hit on the first possible day. That leaves 4 months to go from Scout to First Class. Not impossible... but fast.
I would assume the girls followed the letter of the rank requirements. But something about this does not sit right with me. Making Eagle is supposed to be the culmination of a journey. 20 months isn't much of a journey.
This isn't an entirely new thing. Lots of boys have made Eagle in 24-30 months, and I think that's too fast as well.
Also, I'll state that all four of these girls came from the same troop.
There's a lot of O-Ters that live in Katy, so maybe one of you know these girls. I'm not trying to knock their accomplishment, I just wonder if, by moving through this in 20 months, perhaps they meet the letter of the rules, but have missed the spirit of the accomplishment.
And I would say the same thing about any boy that did this in 20 months.

Earlier this month, four members of Katy’s all-female Boy Scout Troop 1584 earned the highest honor within the program. They are the first girl Eagle Scouts in the Katy area and all began their journey as part of the first class in the group.

I get that Boy Scout is the name of the organization but like what?

The BSA is a dead organization

Did they have to be molested by female scout leaders?
That's a badge, right?

Scouts can frick right off

You need to calm down

Actually, this move will allow for growth. Now the GSA is a rustled bunch. I think they are trying to sue BSA over the word scout.

Isn't it called "The Scouts" now? No chance I would put my kid in a pedophile's line of sight.

Cookie company that uses child labor.

Are you Catholic?

Yup.
ETA
From my understanding, the BSA tried to merge, and GSA didn't want to lose any cookie money. For reals.

That is an a-hole statement right there. Child molesters that infiltrated the Scouts can frick right off but BSA is a great organization that may be more needed now than at any time in its history.
We have lost the skills that Scouting teaches. When an out of the ordinary circumstance arises, playing video games and using social media won't help. You know what does? Being able to make a fire, cook something you kill and design a shelter. All things that Scouting teaches. I was blown away after Katrina when men I knew didn't know how to start a fire outside. If that storm taught me anything, it is that we are all five minutes away from society breaking down.
If that ever happens on a wide scale, standing on a raised interstate and waving to a government helicopter won't be an option. People need to be able to fend for themselves.

Now you are going to have more allegations involving the opposite sex

Being Catholic doesn't mean your kids need to be alter boys.
I grew up Catholic and my priest never even had an opportunity to be alone with me outside of the confessional, which had a barrier between us and my parents were standing outside of.

How? Cub scouts require a parent to be present at all times.

They've only done it to themselves. They've gotten away from the things that made Girl Scouts fun in a lot of troops because of cookie sales.

If they're not coed then why not call it girl scouts?

They've allowed girls into Boy Scouts for at least a decade now.
