Saturday night's Georgia-Alabama game got higher ratings than every NBA Finals game

Same for Game 7 of the NLCS though that particular game was simulcasted on two different networks.

Georgia-Bama averaged 9.611 million viewers on CBS. CBS says it peaked at 12.046 million viewers and was up 3 percent versus the comparable primetime game last year, Georgia-Notre Dame on September 21st. Georgia-Bama was the most-watched college football game on any network so far this season.
NLCS Game 7 between the Braves and Dodgers averaged 9.662 million viewers on a Fox/FS1 simulcast.
Both of these numbers were higher than all six NBA Finals games; Game 5 was the highest viewership with 8.89 million viewers. Game 6, in which LeBron James clinched his fourth NBA championship, averaged 8.29 million viewers.

Is this because of the racist, homophobic fans too?

Absolutely not. For comparison's sake, 33 million people tuned in to watch Game Six of the 1998 NBA Finals (Jordan's last game with the Bulls). These are historically low ratings that have never been seen before.

Damn.

Comparing anything recent in the NBA to Jordan’s last game seems a little bit of a reach

I’m pleasantly surprised that NLCS Game 7 got those type of ratings. It also shows that it’s pretty stupid of MLB to not air more World Series games on Sundays. Yeah, they would have to go up against Sunday Night Football but Sunday’s also the highest viewing television night of the week. It would still get much higher ratings than a game on Tuesday or Wednesday night.

NBA finals used to be tape delayed. Let’s not get too crazy here.

Agreed. Just compare it to games this decade or the last 5 years even.

That sounds about normal.
College Bowl games like Rose and Fiesta outperform NBA, Hockey and MLB playoffs.
People in this country love football. Which is why the highest rated shows every year - 7 of the Top 10 are NFL games.
And the NBA sucks and most people are starting to realize that.

The NBA bubble busted, the last deal with ESPN will be their last Big contract. It will be negotiations, and possibly other networks getting involved at a lower price.
NBA, like hockey is a niche sport, thankfully for NBA, they have a race of people who for the most part, love it, or it would get worse rankings than Gomer Pyle USMC reruns

Game 5 of the World Series is scheduled on Sunday every single year lately.
Tuesday/Wednesday
Friday/Saturday/Sunday
Tuesday/Wednesday
^That has been the rotation for at least the last 6-7 years.

It was also just about the only game on TV Saturday night.
Normally there'd be a nice Big 10 matchup and a few PAC12 games on to split the ratings.
The only other game on was FSU-UNC.

Not shocking. CFB is arguably the second most popular sport now
