How were Trump's tax returns obtained? By hacking?

Why were those articles by the New York Times not throttled? Are those not private materials that deserve shielding from public view?

That attempt sure disappeared like a fart in the wind. Lol

Trump's tax returns were illegally obtained. The Hunter Biden computer became the legal property of the computer store owner after he failed to return and make payment for the recovery work.

This was what the Times reported:

All of the information The Times obtained was provided by sources with legal access to it. While most of the tax data has not previously been made public, The Times was able to verify portions of it by comparing it with publicly available information and confidential records previously obtained by The Times.

Does having legal access also mean you can legally release it?

i don't see how a media outlet can obtain copies of tax records without severe legal or ethical issues
certainly more species legal or ethical issues than a hard drive that the repair shop owns

Not necessarily. It makes me wonder if the source was someone at Mazar's or within Trump org.

awaiting a response b/c this applies in both scenarios

Either by hacking or by a deranged employee stealing them and then giving them to the NYT. Most likely someone stealing them. Either way, it's a severe felony.

almost certainly illegal

The difference with the Biden story is the IC warnings that they picked up chatter that GRU would be releasing it as part of a disinfo operation. They recently ran one in the the French elections that included forgeries.

Can't wait to see your mental gymnastics on this one
How was this information on HB illegally obtained.

forgeries
has the Biden campaign even disputed the authenticity of the documents?
hell, have they even denied that Joe made contact as alleged (just now as an "informal meeting" or something)?

Without knowing the details obviously, from the surface it would seem those tax returns unless released willingly by the taxes or his agents would be illegally distributed.
If the owner of a laptop provides it to another and doesn't claim the item after services are rendered, I assume there is a clause in any contract signed that the repairer would have ownership of the laptop and could do with it as they will.

I don't know how the info got on the laptop, but the IC has said that GRU hacked Burisma in January and that they've gotten chatter that they were going to release emails in an October surprise. Go look up the Times story.

They denied a meeting. I haven't seen a comment on documents.

Nope. If that was the case, then everyone with access to government protected information would just sell that access to anyone who tosses a few bucks at them.

i mean it's likely their sources are CIA/FBI people who knew about the laptop and are creating a feedback loop similar to Russia-gate
how can you trust any reporting on intel-related stuff by outlets like the NYT and Wapo after they were legitimately exposed in Russia-gate?
