Do any other big programs run a 4-3?

Don’t know much Xs and Os.

Curious why only BP could install this for us.

Yes. UGA

Because that's his style. It requires really good dlinemen. We don't appear to have the studs to run it though.

Auburn runs a 4-3

I prefer the 3-4. Its seems to be more versatile. Look at the number of linebackers we have put in the NFL from the 3-4 scheme between 2016-2019.

Ohio State and Penn State as well. They are varied when they move into nickel and dime coverages, but base 4-3.

Who said Bo was the only one who could do it?

Auburn runs a 3-4

Clemson and Ohio State are probably the two best I can Think of.

Those really good Miss State defenses in 2018 and 2019 were a 4-3

Realistically because of spread offenses most teams run something like a 3-3-5 or a 4-2-5

But the Base of a lot of good defenses is a 4-3.

You just need dogs in the DL in any defense.

This is a great article explaining the differences, strengths and weakenses of the Aranda’s defense vs a 4-2-5

Clemson - But their safeties and OLB are almost interchangeable
Ohio St.
Florida
A&M

Auburn runs a 4-3 under

Bama and UGA run 3-4 but they don't have those big nose guards anymore and their outside LB is almost always on the line. Bama had Will Anderson in 3 point stance last week

Also in football today every team has 5 DBs on the field most of the time

You have to have good ends to run a 4-3

It doesn't matter if you run a 4-3 or 3-4 if your secondary is garbage.

It's more than x and o's now. The defense looks like it has given up

Good point

LSU essentially ran a 4 man front with the way they used Chaisson last season. People are making way too big of a deal about the defense switch IMO.

Remember when we all freaked out for switching to a 3-4? We had shite LBs then too. Defensive adjustments take a few years to recruit for unfortunately. should've stuck with the 3-4

This. For the years under Aranda, your D-lineman were gap pluggers. In a 4-3, those guys gotta be able to GO! It will take another year before we are 4-3 ready. Gotta get the dudes. And O can do that.

I was wrong. They would be better in a 4-3

I think too much is being made of 43 vs 34

Bama’s base defense is 3-4. 2 years ago against LSU they ran a 4-2-5 cover 2 for over 40 consecutive downs. Very few teams stay in a base defense anymore. 3-4 vs 4-3 is way overrated

Agreed

There is nothing Inherently wrong with a 4-3

Not knowing our assignment is the biggest issue.

Aranda's first year he switched us from a 4-3 to a 3-4.

Our national defensive rankings:

YPG: 7th
YPP: 5th
PPG: 5th
PPP: 4th
TDPG: 1st

One of the best defenses in LSU history. Wasted by Les Miles.

LSU doesn't run a 4-3. They run a 4-2-5 with a hybrid safety. Its a bastardized multiple defense that is a lot of nothing.
