Horror movie recs?

Any lesser known horror movie recs you guys have? It would be greatly appreciated. I did a search on here and an unofficial tigerdroppings google search. Stumbled upon an old thread about Greald’s Game from last year. I watched it last night. Sadly I thought it sucked (shrugs).
Any obscure movies or newer recent year movies would be good. Horror or disturbing or both. Or anything older even. Current Netflix options didn’t really pique my interest when scrolling through.
TIA

This is asked often around here. This was one of my responses several years ago with some solid recs and a solid list of threads with recs.
Note: I’ve since seen It Follows and didn’t like it near as much as most people on this board. It was just decent, and pretty overrated IMO.
I'll echo some of the ones mentioned here.
As Above, So Below was surprisingly good to me. Pretty cool concept that I feel like they pulled off really well.
Babadook wasn't too great IMO, but it was decent (I just didn't like the ending).
Cabin in the Woods was great, especially if you like meta with your horror. It's fantastic (both as satire and a legit horror movie).
The Houses October Built was decent, but the ending was sort of weird and confusing.
Agree that the first Paranormal Activity was solid. It would've been one of the best horror movies I had ever seen had the trailer not completely ruined the ending. I was super pissed about that.
I've heard good things about It Follows, but haven't had a chance to watch it yet (almost did a couple nights ago actually).
If you like weird, sort of fricked up ones, Megan is Missing is not too bad (but it's pretty twisted though). May not be straight up horror though.
I thought Black Death was pretty solid. Plus, Sean Bean is in it, and he's awesome.
Zombeavers was mentioned, and while it's obviously stupid as frick, it's a fun watch.
House of the Devil is a good, slow-burn horror/thriller, and a throwback to old school horror movies.

Perfect . Thanks.
I know I’ve seen quite a few threads in previous years. I was trying to find some but unsuccessfully.

Don't Breath came out back in 2016 and got little fan fair. I thought it was outstanding.

POSSESSION (1981) is a must watch. The plot - a married couple split after the wife admits to having a lover. Her husband goes through extreme depression and psychosis, and becomes obsessed with finding out who her lover is. However he soon finds out that things are much more sinister than they seem...
Stars a young Sam Neill & Isabella Adjiani. The performances are so good. The movie captures the horrors of losing someone you love during a breakup. The cinematography is beautiful & haunting, and the camera shots/angles in this movie are so unique to anything I have seen in any genre. I don't want to go any further, all I have to say is watch the movie and I guarantee you'll be wondering why it isn't more recognized as being a classic.
ETA: Also fair warning this movie gets really disturbing at parts.

The Exorcist is back on On Demand with Cox now

I always go to The Strangers, as it's the standard for me. True horror is the stuff that can (or in this case did on some level) happen.
Loved Cabin in the Woods.
I'm in the minority crowd in that I did not enjoy It Follows, The Witch, Hereditary.
Thought Midsommar was trippy but it may be the only A24 movie that I didn't actively hate.
Conversely, most Blumhouse titles are right up my alley.
Caught the first episode of Monsterland on Hulu last night, and the one with Kaitlyn Dever (Eve from Last Man Standing) was slow, but unexpected.

The Exorcist is mentioned a lot in all of those threads... for a reason.
ETA: if you want some older ones
The original last house on the left
Children shouldn't play with dead things
the town that dreaded sundown "original"

asking for "horror movie" recs is way too broad
what are you trying to accomplish by watching these movies?
feel scared?
be grossed out?
laugh a little?
feel terror on a visceral level?
feel bad/gross after?
make you think about things on a deeper level?
ETA: also, are you watching movies properly? lights off, no distractions, on a TV, etc. if you're watching these movies on a phone fricking off then i can't help you.

had this discussion in my thread about Antrum, which was a solid little weirdo flick that requires atmosphere and for you to buy in and let the atmosphere surround you
when i watched youtube reviews after watching it, they were all tweens and z'ers who watched it on phones saying it sucked
no fricking shite

Onibaba
Kuroneko
These are two gems I recently discovered by famed Japanese director K. Shindo on the Criterion Channel streaming app. These are really scary, very well made and crafted. I think what sets these two horror genre movies apart from vast majority is that the characters are very developed and nuanced, so it makes the movies more serious and real if that makes sense. The actors/actresses here are as good as you'll see in any film imo. Those Japanese film makers from the 60's era could make some really good movies notwithstanding the Godzilla and Rodan monster types many people associate with early Japanese cinema.
