I prefer his work on the Fourteenth Chapel!
I mean, how many chapels are in the Vatican anyway?

Most people don't realize that the "drawings" MC Escher did were actually lithographs drawn on stone and then printed from that stone. Most people also don't realize how much of a pain in the arse lithography is. It takes hours of work just to get the stone ready to draw on. You have to grind the previous drawing off with a hand tool working from course grit to fine grit while keeping the surface of the stone perfectly flat and parallel to the back of the stone. If it isn't level the print will fade on one side because of less pressure there. Then you have to draw on the stone with an oil based pencil without touching the stone with your hands. If you do touch the stone, oil from your hands will make the ink stick there later. And you can't really erase either. You can try to scrape off the ink but it never erases completely. I won't even get into the hell that is acid etching, buffing, and then printing the stone. He's not my favorite artist but with all that in mind it is mind boggling to see how prolific he was.
Artists are so strange. Why not just paint or draw on paper?

Da Vinci was #2 on my personal list, followed by Shakespeare and the Walt Disney Co.

Bob Dylan, if music is included.
I mean, at this point, Bob probably has just a pile of uncashed royalty/rights checks laying over in the corner of his living room. Every year/season there is another tv show or commercial licensing his stuff. Covers, too, make him big money. There's no telling what Amazon paid him for the sole use of his entire catalog. He couldn't sing to start with, and now his voice is shot, and he's still selling out every single show.

Because if you draw on paper you have 1 drawing you can sell. If you draw on a stone and pull prints from it you can sell many prints.
We still use lithography today in tons of print material except it's all automated and they use thin metal plates instead of stone slabs.

How many prints can a stone lithography process make before reapplying ink?

My #1 choice is, without a doubt, The Beatles.
Bruh. With people like Shakespeare, Michaelangelo, or Mozart there’s no way the Beatles are #1
