I am having a "I feel really old" moment.

My oldest boy needs some new tires for his bike. I went to the local wally world to see if they had any. I was really really not surprised they didn't have any there. I miss the days when you could go to Walmarks, Western Auto, or random store and pick up random bicycle parts... I have to order them online. Just a weird rant, but it makes me feel old.

Could also support your local bike shop. Might pay a few dollars more but the service outweighs the convenience of a box store or online shopping.

It would probably be interesting to walk down a Walmart, Sears, etc. if it were preserved from say 1985.
Probably would be surprised to see what they no longer carry in stores these days

Finding “your local bike shop” could end up being a huge pain in the arse these days.
Capitol Schwinn used to have locations on Essen and on Florida by Cortana but I think both went bust.

Are you in Grand Isle? The grocery store has them.

Unless they closed really recently Essen is still open. Florida as well but I haven’t been there as recently as Essen.

Side note but those bike stores made an absurd amount of money during quarantine

To a certain extent. Once stock ran out, most shops are still struggling to get inventory from the manufactures. Not many bikes are made on American soil. Importing stock has been though as of late.

I just discovered Tums Chewy Bites and I texted no less than 8 people to tell them about my latest discovery. Getting old is delicious!

Western Auto
That’s a blast from the past. One of my favorite rifles is a .22 mag my uncle gave me and it’s marked Western Auto. I think Savage made them.

Florida, Essen, and a location on Jones Creek are still open.

In the 70's my hometown had a Gibson's department store.
There are 2 left - one in Weatherford, TX. I went in May, just like walking back to 1975.
The Gibson's guy big timed Sam Walton when Walton came to see if he wanted to work together around 1975 - made him sit all day and never saw him.
Oops! That's why you don't see Gibson's any more.

While Birmingham is about as far removed from GI as one would like, I wish for you that you had a shop as cool as Redemptive Cycles.
All kinds of folks line up at their funky downtown warehouse to get bikes fixed QUICK. No judgement is made, and it's a wide spectrum of folks that they serve. All they do is fix bike and tires.
While they're a 501(c) that are probably funding Antifa or Joe Biden's campaign on the back end, they fixed me up stupid-cheap, lightning-quick and with a smile.
That's all one can ask, right?
