Stingley’s Dad was on Off the Bench today talking about Jr’s hospitalization and mentioned some key things about that game with Stings absence.
In short he said that Evans showed signs in practice of being able to compete but was not ready for the SEC.
Ward was not even supposed to dress out but they dressed him “just because” and he played hurt. Plus he did not practice at all and was moved to nickel pregame (Flott’s position)
Flott practiced at nickel all week and got moved to corner pregame.

Basically stated that they were playing out of role and were guessing a lot throughout the game....

Just thought it was interesting to hear him explain all the questions we were asking ourselves as to why we looked so shitty on the back end...

Has there ever been a thinner, more inexperienced position group in the first game?

Probably shouldn’t have played press man to man then...

I agree. That’s why Pelini absolutely has to go. He did his thing, he was great when we won the natty, now it’s time for him to retire.

They would have eaten up the zone as well. These guys weren’t ready to play, simple as that.

After hearing his explanation this morning, which seems to be one of the best so far I didn’t feel like crap about our DB performance anymore.

They played zone a few times and still got carved. There wasn't a whole lot anyone could do.

Honestly, probably not. We had this to choose from defensively for Saturday’s game...
CB include
True freshman (Ricks), true freshman (McGlothern), Freshman(Jones), sophomore (Flott) sophomore (Ward) , transfer (Evans)(no Sec experience)

Safety includes
Freshman (Toles)
Sophomore (Hampton)
RS Junior (Harris)
Senior (Stevens)
Senior (Lewis)

Exactly these idiots don’t know football. Playing man is easy, zone is more complex for players to understand. One DB been on campus 2 weeks in Evans, other fresh off surgery haven’t practiced in a couple weeks. Yea let’s play zone Moo State still eats our lunch. This is the staff whiffing on DB recruits & attrition players leaving early.

The LB group was better than the DB group we had on the field Saturday. It would’ve helped mask some of those deficiencies if Bo had even tried by dropping a LB or two. Would it change the outcome? Who knows. But at least try.

You don’t have to go full zone to mix in zone concepts.

If ward hasn’t practiced slot, much less at all, I don’t know how comfortable he would have been in zone.

Or he understands football beyond a tune in the TV level.

Brennan needs to play better, if he doesn't he will be replaced. IT will sort itself out. It does explain why Bo would stay in man.

What a bunch of BS? If this is true then it reflects really bad on the coaching staff. Is he implying that if one person gets hurt right now then we will basically play guys who have never been prepared? What about that kid from the UA game? 5* corner if I’m not mistaken. Where is he? How about tackling? Did we not practice tackling because our safeties looked like they forgot how or never been taught how to break down and make a play in the open field
