He's taking over after a draft and covid cleaned out most of his experienced talent. Also needs time to recruit guys that fit his system, Aranda wasn't a god his defenses were extremely porous at times.

$2.3 million says otherwise.

Say what you want about Aranda but his defenses never gave up 623 yards passing.

If Pelini saw that man to man wasn't working, why didn't he adjust? Saying "Oh we're just going to keep running this because that's what we do" is bad coaching.

One would think it might not be best to constantly run MAN, with inexperienced players...

He needs Stingley back. I am withholding judgement until Stingley returns.

With all due respect, the sole reason you hire him is to avoid a perceived learning curve due to his experience.

Most Junior High defensive coordinators would have at least tried a zone Saturday.

Study the game a little more before making proclamations of this type.

He took over a National Championship team and in his first game, against a perennial underdog where his team was ranked and heavily favored, lost by 10 and saw the opponent's new QB set a conference record for 623 passing yards.

He definitely needs time. Or something.

That's the one thing he does not have. He better be recruiting some great players.

I know for a fact Pelini has forgotten more than I know about football. But if zone coverage didn’t cross his mind when our DB’s are clearly gassed we aren’t doing something right. Makes me feel like he wasn’t comfortable with his installs yet. How can we not be capable of playing some type of cover 3 at the highest level of college football?

I’ll also acknowledge that the D played a full game worth of snaps before half cause the offense had zero rhythm, and moxy at home against an inferior defense. This is just as concerning.

He is one of the highest paid coordinators in the country and refused to make adjustments at halftime.

He doesn't deserve time after that. An absolute joke.

I was an immediate fan of the Pelini hire but what he’s being paid, he should have to have time to get things ready. The defense should have been ready to go. They were not ready to do shite.

Agreed... in part.

I'm less focused on the $2.3MM and talent. Yes, he is somewhat rebuilding as the whole team is. However, it's not an overhaul. There's talent there. If you can't get this level of talent to execute your scheme(s) then the problem lies elsewhere.

So no, he doesn't need time to recruit to be "effective". "Effective" being a top-5 SEC defense. To be top tier, top 2, yes- that will require some recruiting.

To get that talent to execute to an "effective" range is a much shorter time clock. Like 3 games (with the hinderances this year such as defections & lost practice drill).

Pure BS.
This was a “comfort” hire by Orgeron. Pelini’s last defenses at YSU were bad. The Big1G he coached in was very traditional from an offense standpoint. He was a poor choice.
Orgeron could have found a guy with an attacking style that was a better fit for the current game.
Same with Linehan hire.

Got damn, no-one was asking for an under 200 yard day with a shutout.

What people was expecting was NOT to have the single game yardage broken by mississippi fricking STATE in baton rouge.

frick all that noise about "giving him time". Get outta here.
