California just started the clock on a future that a few years ago would’ve been unthinkable: dealerships full of nothing but zero-emissions cars.
On Wednesday, Governor Gavin Newsom ordered regulators to phase out the internal combustion engine and ban the sale of all new gasoline-fueled cars after 2035.

Good time to open a dealership across the border in AZ or NV.

May as well form their own country. Then all the liberals who hate America could move there.

It’ll never happen, but if it did, it would be the best thing to happen to auto manufacturers in decades. Freeing them from CA regulations would be liberating in more than one way.

SACRAMENTO, CA—Gavin Newsom, governor of the state with the highest people-to-electricity ratio in the nation, banned gasoline cars yesterday via executive order. The order takes effect in 2035, meaning by that time, everyone in the state with no electricity will only be able to plug in their cars to the power grid that does not work. "Everyone, plug in those cars!" Newsom said proudly in a room lit only by candlelight, since, you know, the whole electricity thing. "Other states run on backward, outdated fossil fuels. We are the state of the future, so we will run solely on electricity. Which, you know, we're working on. We could have power by 2035. You never know." There was an awkward silence. "SCIENCE!" Newsom said, regaining his momentum and drawing applause from the reporters gathered. By the year 2035, the move is expected to completely eliminate all gasoline car carbon emissions, smog, and California residents.

Seems discriminatory to make low income families buy Teslas.

I'm not anti-electric or anything but if they're so awesome why does the government have to mandate their purchase? No one forced me to adopt DVD's or microwaves or smart phones.

Me either. I just don't want to be forced to purchase one. Right now, it would be a fairly major inconvenience for me to have an electric vs gas. When that is no longer the case, perhaps I'd consider it.

Have car manufacturers standardized chargers or will everyone be carrying around some type of adaptor? If so the adaptor business could be good in California.

They kind of did force you. By making older forms obsolete, then discontinuing them, sort of make us adopt things we might not wish to adopt. But it's still a market and choice thing, we can often go without the newest.

People in the Lake Charles area would have been screwed the past month.

Is this a pandering attempt at Tesla since Tesla was threatening to leave Cali?

Would trucks even exempt? Not every job can be accomplished in an ev.
