quote:

Gov. John Bel Edwards said Tuesday the special session should be limited to 10-14 days, not up to 30 days as the Louisiana Legislature is planning, and be restricted to about five topics rather than the 70 on the House and Senate agenda.

quote:

The governor also said it would make no sense for the Legislature to impose restrictions on his ability to spell out rules on restaurants, bars and public gatherings in the battle against the coronavirus. "You can't respond to a public health emergency by committee," Edwards said.

quote:

House Speaker Clay Schexnayder, R-Gonzales, pointedly said a significant number of House members believe the governor's rules to combat the virus represent "an imbalance of power."

"This special session will not end without a solution to this problem," Schexnayder said Monday.

He's telling the legislature how they should do their job but the legislature shouldn't be allowed to tell him anything? Definitely sounds like an imbalance of power to me.

that is a SCARY response

JBE only has that power b/c of legislative action. he's arguing that we should invalidate the power of legislators

Pretty much. However, he'll end up winning this fight. He always does.

The legislature may pass something, but it won't be anything significant. I'll be happy to be proven wrong, I just don't see it.

The “Republicans for Edward’s” should all have to wear a badge of disgrace for this.

Where are all the LA boys who thought it was a great idea to vote JBE back into office? Their names should be stickied for all to laugh at.

Confirmed. The state GOP is cucked and so is the legislative GOP caucus. Bunch of legit RINOs. Many of whom were D before R and changed when it was politically expedient. We get the government we vote for.

But he's okay responding to this "public health emergency" by dictatorship?

JBE guy is such a joke.

There’s been an imbalance of power since EWE revised the state Constitution to give himself such unprecedented power. The line item veto in the hands of a petulant child/bully is a powerful weapon

They all want that federal bailout. Every single one of them.

This might get interesting...
quote:

Edwards said the state Constitution clearly invests him with the authority to take steps during a public health emergency and he has no intention of surrendering it. "I don't think they are going to be successful in doing that," he said.

Edwards also said his critics have never spelled out specifically what they object to in his anti-virus measures.

They want you to open up fully!

Sounds like he wants a bail out from Nancy rather than opening up fully. No doubt she promised blue governors something if they keep it shut down until the election.

quote:

Edwards said the best solution would be for Congress to pass a bipartisan bill that includes aid for state and local governments, including flexibility on how to use the dollars.

"That would be the best thing that could happen," he said.

Flexing right in to someone's pocket.

Screw him. And the speaker too.

The "EMERGENCY" of covid is over .. there IS NO EMERGENCY. WHY can't this be called "over"? IF hospital space was truly the issue they were concerned with in the beginning, guess what? THERE'S TONS OF SPACE. Their own numbers show it!

Actions speak louder than words, Clay, and those exact words have been bandied about for months now. LINK

The first thing discussed and passed should be a repeal of JBE's COVID-19 emergency declaration. If you can't do that then don't even bother showing up.

jbe is just like most arrogant dems, you are almost forced to play their game. NEVER take them at their word, ask questions and allow them to prove their intentions. example:

you must respond to his quote above with, "...and how do you define public health emergency?" If he wants to play lawyer games, then so be it. Once has answers with the obvious VERY generic answer, to give himself more power at a whim, then it will be even more obvious to the voting public how power starved jbe is.
