re: Mel Gibson's next film - "The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection"

Collusion
It's very difficult to find a dozen like-minded men willing to die for something they know to be a lie. It's one thing to be brain washed into believing something you have no first-hand knowledge of, but it's quite another thing entirely to die for a lie that you yourself started. Of the 11 Apostles who remained faithful, only John (and maybe Matthew) lived to see old age. The others were martyred for their faith in a resurrected Jesus. This does not include Paul and Matthais (Judas's replacement) who became Apostles after the events recorded in the Gospels. Both of them were martyred as well. At the very least, they all BELIEVED that Jesus had risen from the dead and that they had seen him resurrected.

So it'll be a Thin Red Line sequel too.

Also, based on Hacksaw Ridge, I'd be very worried that this will suck.
Explain your reasoning.
Every actor delivering dialogue like they're all in totally different movies. Ugly as hell effects, as covered earlier. A story that leans on hokiness to a debilitating degree, including the eye roll inducing, bombastic score. Every villain (not the Japanese) is a cartoon. Andrew Garfield, with his accent and puppy dog shtick, is a cartoon that the audience knows from minute 5 is being set up as a holy martyr (I know that's his story, but Gibson doesn't have to work so hard to rob the narrative of any tension right from the beginning).
I should be the audience for an anti-war, pro-pacifism movie, but Gibson botches this part of his messaging at every turn. He obviously wants the audience to think the battle stuff is super cool, but then throws in stuff like the rats, to make sure you know how dehumanizing this all was. Yeah, sure. Pick a lane, Mel. He's either on one side of the see-saw, dropping a boulder on it, or he's on the other with that same boulder. That makes the tone and message management a fricking mess. Either give me a mindless, dark war movie or give me your message movie, but do some work to make that messaging clear from the visuals and plot, not just your protagonist's southern boy preaching.
Out the 564 best picture nominees I've seen, I have it ranked 539. I love apocalypto. I like Braveheart. I don't like Passion, but I do think it's competently constructed,or I did last time I saw it over a decade ago.

The use of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Latin is the only reason I've ever re-watched Passion. I don't really care much for the torture scenes.

So if somebody is making a movie about Ramachandra (Rama) and I say "the movie is about the purported 7th avatar of Vishnu" you would say my anti-Hinduism bias is showing?
No, I would say you’re retarded. If you don’t believe, just watch it as fiction. Would you have said Thanos purportedly killed half the universe with 1 snap?

If you are a “Resurrection-Denier”, how do you explain the actions of the disciples in the years following that non-event?
Because a dead person is dead. David Koresh had disciples too

Completely valid criticism of the story IRL. Why is the default, then, not to critique it as a work of fiction?

Not so badly. Although "reported" might fit better in lieu of "purported".

No b/c Thanos is 100% verifiable fiction and is not part of a major world religion.

Hmmm. Granted, it’s not a perfect analogy, but would you say Christians, Jews, Muslims, atheists, etc...are not able to critique the film Ghandi on its own merits because they reject the theology of the real-life protagonist?

Of course they can critique the movie. That really has nothing to do with what I was responding to in the first place. Describing Passion 2 as being about the "purported resurrection of Jesus" isn't an anti Christian statement. There is nothing wrong with indicating it may or may not be true when describing what the film is about. It's not an attack. It's not some sort of slander. If anything it's an agnostic description. That's why I brought up Rama. Jesus is essentially an avatar of the Judeo-Christian god just like Rama is an avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu. So if saying the purported resurrection of Jesus is an attack on Christianity than the same would be true if one said a movie was about the purported avatar of Vishnu.
