Marshall was Burrow's favorite target, before injury

I think he is going to set the field on fire, as the clear #1.
Happy for the young man!

I wouldnt say that, all 3 between Marshall, Chase and Jefferson were very even through the Vandy game, but Marshall was definitely not the same player pre-njury vs. post. Not that he dropped off a lot, but clearly Burrow got more comfortable with Jefferson and Chase after the injury.

Marshall will no doubt be a huge player, but I think Burrow spread it out pretty evenly.
Marshall got injured Week 4 vs Vanderbilt; Chase did not play vs NW State on Week 3, thru Week 3:
Jefferson 19 Rec, 374 yards, 4 TD (3 Games)
Chase 10 Rec, 168 yards, 2 TD (2 Games)
Marshall 16 Rec, 229 yards, 4 TD (3 Games)

Vandy was Chase's statistical best game last year. It was his true coming out party, before that Id say Marshall was our WR1 (if you can really say that last year until the end of the season).
Chase and Jefferson made separation towards the end of the year. But I would still argue if Marshall doesnt get hurt, Chase may not have had the year he did just due to less touches.
Healthy Marshall was bullying kids just like Chase did last year.

I thought that as well. His height and long arms made him an easier target than either Jefferson or Chase, and Burrow seemed to look for him first.
I just hope he has fully recovered. He wasn't the same at any point last season after the injury, even at the end of the season.

Burrow's favorite receiver was the one that was open. That's why we saw all of the receivers have huge games and other games where they caught very few balls. Our last 2 games were proof of that, OK tried to take Chase away and Jefferson had a huge game, get to the championship game and Clemson loaded up on Jefferson and Chase destroyed them.

I thought he looked pretty damn strong in the playoff and against UGA

I think Gilbert will be the bully this year. Didn't say he would have more catches. He will abuse some DBs.

Marshall was the key that made the passing attack "UNSTOPPABLE". Without him, not so much...

I remember the fear and panic here when Marshall was injured vs Vanderbilt last fall.

When I first read this statement, I thought you were high. But severe boredom got me to look it up and there is some validity here.
Passing numbers when Marshall played:
Ga. Southern - 350 yards 5 TD
Texas - 471 yards 4 TD
Northwestern - 488 yards 2 TD
Vanderbilt - 418 yards 6 TD
Auburn - 321 yards 1 TD
Alabama - 393 yards 3 TD
Ole Miss - 489 yards 5 TD
Arkansas - 352 yards 3 TD
TAMU - 425 yards 4 TD
Georgia - 349 yards 4 TD
Oklahoma - 532 yards 7 TD
Clemson - 463 yards 5 TD
Passing numbers when Marshall did not play:
Utah St. - 353 yards 5 TD
Florida - 293 yards 3 TD
Miss. St - 327 yards 4 TD
So LSU averaged 421 yards 4.1 TDs with Marshall and only 324 yards 4.0 TDs without him.
It's safe to say that the offense was virtually unstoppable with or without Marshall. But it certainly boosted Heisman Joe's numbers when he was in the lineup.

It's freaking amazing that those are our "bad" passing stats. Those are probably close to the highs from the mid-2000s teams.

I didn’t see that. I felt that from the day Joe stepped on campus- Justin was his favorite target.
Justin reached out to Joe when Joe tranferred here and they worked together constantly.
Joe did say on several occasions that he looked for Terrace in the red zone though.

I was thinking the same thing as I typed it out. Last year was so damn special.

Clemson put their best guy on LSU's best receiver, Jamarr Chase. No one in college football had any doubt about who was LSU's best receiver. Hint: He was also the best receiver in the country.

Here are the targets through the Vandy game (Marshall played almost entire game IIRC):
Jefferson - 25 targets
Chase - 25 targets (missed 1 out first 4 games though)
Marshall - 26 targets
Which was my point that Burrow wasn't favoring Marshall before his injury, he was really spreading the ball around quite well between them.
From the Auburn game to end of season though (they all played in every game):
Jefferson - 80 targets
Chase - 73 targets
MArshall - 40 targets
Marshall significantly dropped off, which was to be expected with how comfortable Burrow got with Chase/Jefferson and Marshall clearly wasn't 100% when he did come back either. He didnt break 50 yards receiving in any game till UGA. He was a redzone monster at the end of the season though with 5 TD in the final 3 games, similar to his start of 6 TD the first 3 games of season.
