JJ was on another podcast talking about his decision making process on choosing teams in FA.

quote:

Host: Do you think you'll ever get there [taking a minimum to chase a ring]
JJ: Oh yeah, for sure, for sure. I'm at that point now. Yeah, when this contract is up, yeah. Look, I'd love to go back to New Orleans, I've had a great experience there. They obviously have a chance to win big over the next few years with the nucleus they have.

LINK (talk about FA starts around the 48 minute mark)

Then he rambles on a bit about all the uncertainties. He's not ruling the Pels out, but he's ready for a ring. He also mentioned on his own podcast recently that it would bother him if he finished his career without a championship.

Yeah I think he thought it was a good idea at the time to sign with us and now sees how far away we are, and how short his career has left.

I would not be surprised if he's moved to a contender as part of a deal or multi-team deal.

Send him home. Take the future assets. Let him chase a ring.

He’s also said he wants to be closer to his family. He wants to be there for big times in his children’s lives. PMT interviewed him a few months back. I think if he wasn’t under contract he’d be gone this year.

Brooklyn does make a ton of sense.

They want a cheaper LaVert who can just make his shot and doesn't need the ball in his hands. We also could probably take Dinwiddie and LaVert somehow to have the assets and screw around with it next year. Would help their cap a lot considering they want the space anyway. Also we have a lot of connections with their roster and FO.

I'm sure Brooklyn also knows he would sign a multi year deal to finish his career at a good price.

Don't think they would give up Dinwiddie and Lavert in a JJ deal. Not even close.

I'd be happy to send him to Brooklyn.
Do a 3 team trade where DRose and JJ go to Brooklyn, Lonzo goes to Detroit, Jarret Allen and Dinwiddie come to Pels, with a pick swap between us and Detroit this year (we get #7 they get #13).
We'd reduce our salary by $8.6M in that deal.

A lot seems to change in a year. Probably has nothing to do with us offering the most money. Now that he has had a mini revival and has more value, he wants to win as well as get paid. I don't blame the guy, but this is hardly huge news. Ring chasing is sad and pathetic. But he has no legacy after playing on 4 teams and wanting to jump to a 5th. Trying to manufacture it this late in the game just isn't going to happen..

They would if they don't plan on paying him and want the money elsewhere. I read something earlier this year about them wanting veterans and building a solid squad. If they are trying to create space knowing Kyrie is healthy then we may be able to sneak away with him. This really depends on if they have another player or 2 in mind that they want space for of course.

I don't think a lot has changed. It was weird for anyone to think he was gonna be here after his second year. The fact that we didn't make the playoffs this year definitely put a little dent in year 2. He's a great guy and doesn't have his playoff streak anymore to care about so now its about a Championship and his family.

Griffin is a good salesman as we have seen, and sometimes a players eyes are bigger than their stomach, so to say.

He probably thought it would be fun to live in NOLA and play with all these young guys. Got caught up in the hype.

And then the reality of living in the South, far from his family, us not being As good as he thought, being in the West, missing the playoffs, pandemic, etc...

And he probably thought he had more time left and now realizes he has a year or two.

Moving him to Philly or Brooklyn for assets is likely the best move for all parties.

His family isn't in New Orleans during the season? I know he spoke on his podcast of a kid in the same daycare or school as one of Jrue's kids.

I'd rather 2 separate trades but

Brooklyn: JJ, Rose, Miller contact

Pels: LaVert, Dinwiddie, #7

Detroit: Lonzo, Garrett Temple, Pels 2nd, Nets 2nd

Brooklyn saves: 23 mil

Pels save: 2 mil ( and add assets)

Detroit: words

They were, but not now. He doesn't even have a place in NOLA right now, he crashed at Jrue's when the team reported to New Orleans before leaving for the Bubble. It sounds like he spends most of his offseason time in Brooklyn and The Hamptons. I don't think he regrets signing here, but he would most definitely welcome a trade to the Nets.

Detroit is not giving up their first round pick, much less their first round pick and DRose for Lonzo. he isn't worth that much, and Detroit doesn't have any extra picks, so i seriously doubt they would be interested in trading their 1st round pick. Their team is toast, they aren't attracting any FA, and their only route at this time to get better is through the draft.

I don't think D rose has much to do with their pick but yeah I see your point about them not wanting to give it up. At the same time they would be able to sign Lonzo for the next 5 years as he would be the start to their rebuild. So really the only people who can answer that is Detroit. Its not highly unlikely that they would value 5 years of Lonzo > #7 in a kinda weak draft. They didn't get a top 5 pick and even moved back a spot I believe so who knows.

I wonder if something like JJ and Lonzo for Dinwiddie, Allen, and Temple would make sense for both parties.

We definitely wouldn't need to trade Lonzo for that group plus I think he may be worth more in his own deal. (unless there is another player we are targeting for JJ and Lonzo).

Dinwiddie is already redundant behind a healthy Kyrie and them taking Lonzo back is double redundant.

JJ for Dinwiddie straight up isn't the worst and neither is JJ and Miller contract for LaVert. I would like to squeeze Allen or another asset if we can tho.
