SIAP but does the backwards compatibility work with the disc less version? Like could the PS4 titles I’ve bought digitally through psn be installed and play on the PS5?

As far as I know, yes. Your collection of already purchased digital games will transfer.

I didn't get a PS4 till almost a month after release, and even then I had to go to Walmart at 7am and wait in line. They only had 30 to give out that day, and I was like 15th in line.

You're definitely not guaranteed to get one on release day without a preorder.

Just look at how hard getting the Switch was at launch.

Yes, and 99% of the games work.

PS5 Backwards Compatibility: Will PS4 Games Purchased from the PS Store Work on PS5?
The PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4 software, so this means both physical and digital software will work on the next-gen system. Assuming you’re using the same PSN account on PS5, you will have access to all of your PS4 purchases from the PlayStation Store. This includes PlayStation Plus titles – but you will have to ensure your subscription is active in order to play these.

I would be shocked if Sony doesn’t learn from that and prepare better this time around. What happened with the pre orders so far I believe is a result of Sony not anticipating this type of response. They will correct it.

And for what it’s worth, I have never preordered a console and had one release day each time. Maybe that is a reflection of where you live?

But Nintendo is notorious for artificially creating shortages.

Not exactly, problems at the TSMC fab forced Sony to I believe, pull back 25% of their 2020 orders.

Sony has denied this emphatically. I will take their word over Bloomberg and their anonymous sources.

Did I miss any highlights in this thread?

I don’t care about availability on day one because I never by a new gen console in the first 6 months.

How far back is backwards compatibility going?

Only PS4 games.

Maybe older games in the future, but PS3 titles have been and always will be pipe dreams.

Only PS4 as far as I have read.

Highlights of this thread include anxiety riddled gamers melting abut pre orders.

I bet they used the Xbox pre-orders as an indication of how many they would receive. Which was obviously way low in comparison.

uh from 2013 or are you insinuating they traveled to the future to get the Xbox numbers?

Boom. Got one! Nice heads up. nowinstock.net has been a letdown with this pre-order cycle so far.
