Jabril Cox won three National Championships at NDSU and is now being tabbed as one of the best players on #LSU's roster. He's seen plenty of talent. He didn't mince words on Arik Gilbert. "If he can continue to get better, he can be the best TE to ever play college football."

He's going to be so special.

The hype is so massive for him it’s unlike any other player I’ve ever seen, maybe more than Fournette lol

Aranda called Stingley the best player on his defense during the Fiesta Bowl practice when he was essentially still a high schooler. A defense with All-American Devin White and Grant Delpit. And Stingley's high school stats were so absurd they seemed fake.
That was some hype as well. And holy shite did he meet that hype.

That is tempered by the fact that he is a tight end. I don't think anybody expects him to go out and get 1700+ yards and 20 touchdowns. In this offense, he should ensure that we have one on one matchups somewhere on the field. He cannot be ignored, like tightens in the past were at LSU. His impact may be noticeable in other receivers stats, not necessarily his own.
I expect him to be a great checkdown option for Brennan and when the defense tightens up, he can run a wheel route and take it to the house. That's not going to happen every down, obviously. On a team full of great red-zone options, he will be one more option down near the goal line.

I get what you're saying, but this dude is going to be split out wide a ton and running WR route trees. Linehan is trying to use him like Megatron.
He's a freshman so I'm not going to say he's catching 20 touchdowns, but I bet next season he's up near the top in targets on the team.

Nah... honestly it's not even close.

I don't think it's going to matter that he is a tight end.
They bvb really are going to split him out wide.
In practice it looks like he takes some reps with the receivers

Hybrid like Jimmy Graham when he was with the Saints. Calling him a TE is just as wrong as calling him a WR. He's like Mathieu but on offense.

Exhibit A:

A guy who’s never played a snap is like one of the most impactful defenders in college football history.

Mathieu was/is what, 5’8”? HB7 was so special not just because of his athleticism, but because he just wanted it more than everyone else on the field. Joey is the best player we’ve ever fielded and Clyde is my personal favorite, but Tyrann Mathieu is easily the most electric.
Arik’s measurables put him well into “freak of nature” territory. So it won’t be a shock when he blows up a linebacker or outruns a corner. Even setting that aside, he’ll have to show a hell of a lot of hustle to justify the “Mathieu on offense” moniker.
Regardless, I’m fricking psyched to see him go to work.

My goodness some of y’all are insufferable lol. That poster clearly was referring to their versatility not impact or measurables when making the Mathieu and Gilbert comparison.
