Serious Q: If Cantrell says no contact sports in Orleans Parish, how can the Saints play?

I understand that the dome is a state owned building, but I was just wondering how Queen Cantrell's power to rule Orleans Parish doesn't cover games in the dome, just as she's dictating policy at private buildings (restaurants, etc.)?

Serious reply: who cares what she or any government official says? Their mandates aren't law, nor are they personally going to stop it. The amount of smoke being blown by these clowns assholes, you would think the California fires were here in Louisiana

That's like asking does she have power at Federal Court houses? No she does not those are Federal properties. The dome is a State property. She could pull NOPD and make it hard but with no fans she has zero leverage.

Doesn’t JPSO pretty much handle Saints games any way? Pretty sure NOPD doesn’t have the manpower for it.

Typically its mix of NOPD, JP and Troopers. Point being she has next to zero leverage.

I don’t think Cantrell is respected enough for the NFL to pay her any attention

She has just as much power as your or I to stop the Saints from playing in the dome.

You guys do understand that she’s referring to high school sports and below, right? I guess, there’s just need to complain about something?

A Democrat with double standards? Ya don't say. The Democrat party is rotten to the core.

The Dome is a state-owned building and it is the Saints place of employment. They filed for a work exemption and were granted it.

Well, you are actually wrong

The no contact sports is for everyone in the city of Nola. The saints had to apply for a special exemption through a "work exemption", and Tulane is actually just breaking the mandate and it appeared that Latoya and Avegno were unaware. Will be interested to see how that moves forward now that they know Tulane is having contact and has a game in Nola Sept 19th

The state governs what goes on in the Superdome. I am sure Tulane is going to play next week, but they have not devised an explanation on how this will be allowed. Yesterday they seemed shocked to be informed that Tulane was playing football (that is okay, I am sure a lot of people were) so I assume they are dreaming up an excuse as we speak.

Sounds nice on an internet forum, but reality is a bit different. Tons of local businesses are getting crushed in that city. If the Saints and Tulane can choose to ignore her "suggestions", why can't they?

I wonder what the criteria is to get an exemption? My main guess is that there would be potential bad press if a certain business is not allowed to function. The NOLA government would look worse not letting the Saints play than they would by continuing to shut down all the other businesses in the city.
