That report doesn't imply anything is open shut on this one. It says they spotted a handgun in the bundle. Reasonable people would think that the bundle dropped exposing him holding the gun but that report doesn't relay that info. It could be interpreted as the gun feel to the ground with the bundle. If that's the case then it's far from open and shut. We will have to await the details.
The problem is, the rioters don't wait for details. Black man shot by police, justified or not, let's riot. It's really incredible what is being allowed in these cities currently. It seems inevitable that armed militias are going to have to stop this by killing folks and that's nuts.

The optics are bad because what's caught on video is the police putting handcuffs on an obviously dead man.

There has to be more to the story. Doesn't seem right to shoot the guy because he has a gun if the gun is just in a pile of clothes on the ground.

Like trump said, sometimes the cops choke like a golfer, or Russell Westbrook.

Yeah that's true. Sometimes cops frick up. Here two of them did, if they did. They both shot.

Seems like the “common sense” reform they’re always talking about.

NBA players think they’re much more important than they think they are

I'm waiting for more information to come out before I really make an opinion. But if it what the article states is completely true(which admittedly is a huge if) he dropped his clothes along with the gun on the ground, that is when he was shot.

If they shot him as soon as they spotted a weapon sitting on the ground, that is a bad shoot. If he tried to lunge for the weapon, then obviously it is justified.

The “Black” (that’s racist btw to give blacks an Honorific capitalization but not whites) man that was killed in L.A. tonight is sad but it’s pretty clearly an acceptable decision by the officer.

So was Blake. And Alton sterling. And Michael brown. None of that mattered.

This.

If the article added the sentence “He then reached for the bag with the gun” immediately following the rest of the description about the clothing bag and gun, there’s no issue with the shooting.

Maybe it was left out because police weren’t clear in describing the situation, maybe they didn’t wait for him to reach for it, or maybe the media is intentionally leaving the detail out to stir it up.

Which given the shite shows we’ve seen in other cities a responsible media would go to great lengths to clarify. Anyone with common sense can deduce that the above is really what the entire situation hinges on. Yet it’s written in a way where it’s intentionally vague or intentionally omitted.

It would be awesome if they cancel the season. Its just another step to irreparable damage.

The term "hoisted with their own petard" comes to mind.

The NBA players are too immature, ignorant and misguided to realize that one aspect of this shutdown has been that people have had to adapt with no sports and in doing so, have figured out they can go without sports. Combine that with the fact that you are alienating a LARGE portion of your potential customer base (i.e. White people. Who much to their chagrin still make up nearly 80% of the US population and the overwhelming majority of the NBA's consumer base) and the value of the league could quickly come crashing down. A league where the dumbass players are only hurting themselves in light of the fact they share the revenue with the owners. Sorry, "Governors".

It would be akin to having a business partner purposely tanking your business's revenue on the premises of demanding that YOU (the other business partner) fix a purported issue (police violence) that YOU literally have no power to fix

Going forth with this hyperbolic ridiculousness in normal times is dicey. But doing it a THE EXACT SAME TIME many people for the first time ever are realizing sports aren't as important to them as they once were is completely asinine. The owners, commissioner, TV people and money people know this. Unfortunately, they can't get that message through to the players. Of course, that's what happens when your workforce is largely uneducated, ill-informed and easily misguided.

“Don’t resist a mugger, just hand over your wallet and you’ll be fine”

“Don’t resist police, just comply and sort things out later”

Both statements can be true, but neither is relevant when talking about the need to reduce crime or police violence. And neither makes the mugger or police officer less morally culpable for their actions.
