My question, what kind of people fall in line with these people?
Those seeking purpose. Lost ones. Those that want to belong.

How weak-minded do you have to be? How do they succumb?
Not necessarily weak minded, only in a weak moment. When you are at the bottom and someone comes offering salvation, many listen. When it comes with an in group, tells you that you aren’t the problem, but the world is, and offers solutions and solace, it’s hard not to hear that.
Most people are sheep desiring to be led. There are shepherds and there are wolves. And sometimes it’s hard to tell.

Wrong. Those are the easiest prey, sure. But a powerful leader has charisma, energy.
He can pull people into his orbit. Give them a cause to flock to and rally against. It’s a fool that thinks only the weak minded can be pulled in.
No, sometimes the strong willed are even better, because if you give them something that makes them superior, lets them into an elite group, it’s even more tempting.
Exclusivity is an allure all its own. Suddenly you belong to a society with power and influence. And the upper ranks have control of their own people.
You fulfill wishes. Those that need to follow, you give them a guiding light. Those that need to control people, you give them a torch to lead others.

Could y'all not drag this into every goddamn thread?
It’s an inherent aspect of the cult mentality.
You want people to follow something? First, you create victims of them. Make them Oppressed. Their problems are not their own, they are the victims of the machinations of the Other.
You offer them a righteous cause. You make them rebels, warriors against powers beyond their control.
You offer honey laced with vinegar.
Promise them salvation. Give them a jihad to fight for. This is easiest when they feel oppressed, powerless in their own existence.
And once they are hooked, committed, you erect the walls around them. Shut out other influences. And convince them that those who would try to reason with them are only trying to lead them astray, purveyors of lies. Set the hook so deep that even if their eyes tell them one Thing, your truth can overpower it.
Isolate them and make them evangelists to your cause. Force them to make enemies of those they once called friends if they don’t follow.
It’s rather simple in its complexity.

BUT, I also think it stems from people wanting to belong to something bigger than themselves. So instead of looking to our Lord Jesus Christ they look past the obvious path to salvation and try to find solace in a false and devious personality or system.
Look, I'm a active Christian, say my prayers daily and fully believe in Lord Jesus Christ. BUT, how do we know we're not being duped? They believe in their god probably even more than we believe in our own. Do we just go with blind faith and hope that we're right they're wrong? Because that is their strategy too.

Hey cat dick, I started a thread that wasn't political, covid, riot, hurricane, shut down, etc. related. So suck it.
I'm going to backtrack here and give you credit. Thank you.

You’re exactly the type they prey on. Narcissistic attitudes really help hide what’s in plain sight.
Listened to a professional scam artist/thief who explained how she loved narcissistic types as marks (notice how she calls them marks and not labeling them as people). She said they were some of the easiest to take advantage of because they thought they were right about everything.
The point is the list of people "falling" for things is actually much larger than one would suspect.

I think my all-time favorite is Heaven's Gate. They had lengthy manifestos, self-castration, bitchin' kicks and a cool Star Trek origin story. The mass suicide was reminiscent of Jonestown, but their motive for doing it had a pure, childlike quality that made them especially crazy.
And when SNL was still funny, because the HG people were all wearing Nikes, they did a spoof Keds commercial right after the mass suicide that has since been scrubbed from the internet.
This is another one they did after the suicide, a spoof Nightline skit interviewing the HG members, now successfully united with their alien friends.
Heavens gate snl

This thread is a shite show. People labeling anything they don’t like as a cult or trying to be edgy.

Do you as a Christian really think you can be duped if you follow the example of Christ? Love is the only thing that will save our communities and our country and the world. “Active” Christians can be a positive force only if they follow Christ’s command to love others as themselves. “Active” Christians can be a most deadly and destructive force if they turn Christianity into a religion that excludes others from the rule of love because they are different or don’t believe as they do.
