You could be right. But he had one big year with an all time great college qb. I hope the best for him and it might not be an issue at all. But it's certainly a risk.

I mean it’s a risk but the consequence of the risk would be going #9 instead of #4 or something like that with very small differences. He’s still a lock for the top half of the draft. Especially since a huge chunk of his competition in the draft pool won’t be able to play this year

If he were to play this season and get majorly hurt, then he could be looking at falling to the late first or second round range if it’s bad enough.

It’s not about risk alone. It’s the balance between risk and reward

I asked if Trevor Lawrence would consider it right after the NC game, and people thought I was crazy.

Worked for Joey Bosa

I don’t think Joey Bosa skipped his junior year in college.

If you are referring to Nick, he went through spring training, fall camp and the first 1/3rd of the season before suffering an injury. After the injury he decided to rehab instead of coming back to play. There was still nearly 10 months of additional development at the collegiate level for him instead of dropping out after his freshman season.

I’m guessing some guys will fall a little farther than they expected by opting out. Players want to play, usually

Yes, but only among players with nothing to gain from their junior seasons.

“He’s just so frickin selfish”

-55 year old man says about a 21 year old kid not playing for free for his favorite sports team

“Money isn’t everything!!! You have to think of the guys in that locker room!!!”

-48 year old man who quit his job last year because another company offered him 2k more a year

I won't disagree with that.

What?

Football is the job of those Chiefs players.

It’s their work.

Seems like slippery slope fallacy

Chase is in a rare rare situation.

There are 5-10 juniors each year in a similar spot. I don’t think anyone believes there will be some widespread opt out of juniors simply because of the numbers, but the guys that are in that kind of spot would be terrible for CFB.

Not really. There’s that many guys that have that kind of talent and have people looking at them as bonafide locks but most everyone of them still has something to prove

That season last year was insane, from production, to winning. Coming down off that high is bound to disappoint, especially with Burrow gone.

The other reason Chase is just in rare air here is that he did all of that I mentioned above in a complex NFL type offense and did it against elite talent week in and week out

He’s answered all the questions on the test. He doesn’t need to take the SAT again just for fun.

Then you add in that this is a very unique situation where 2/3rd of college teams are likely not playing any way so sitting out isn’t going to be an outlier that teams will really be able to hold against you.

It really is just a perfect storm that lead to this in a lot of ways. There will be others but it won’t be something that has a massive impact on CFB.

I think that’s the purple and gold glasses talking. I think Chase is the best WR too, but how much of that was Burrow? Is that not a question? The WR from Minnesota certainly didn’t have Burrow, for example.

He also did it in an insanely talented offense. Chase routinely got one on one looks that other schools can’t create for their elite WR. It’s not difficult to play devil’s advocate for Chase too.

Ultimately, I don’t know if anything will come of it long term, but losing those 5-10 incoming juniors would just suck for us as fans. We’re already robbed of their senior years. Only getting Chase for 2 years at LSU is a huge bummer.

He got open very tight man coverage against elite corners using his route running and next level ball skills

I love Burrow but he benefited greatly from his WRs. I think someone charted balls that would go down as “interceptable” and the number was insanely high because Burrow just trusted those guys to go up and make the play. Again that season was such a weird aberration almost every ball fell our way on offense in a way, and I don’t mean that in a demeaning way

And his production was on par with that benefit. He had 20 frickin TDs after all If he put up similar production numbers to those other WRs that were getting doubled, then it would be a red flag

All the analysis I’ve read and listened to had him as a top 5 pick if he were eligible for last years draft. And that class is known as an all timer for top end WR talent. McShay basically said he was a class of his own on Russillos pod.

We already knew he was a stud from what he put on tape his freshman year. We just finally put an offense to show him off properly.

Also if these are questions you have about him, that’s all the more reason for him not to risk having a disappointing season and possibly proving any of those concerns as legitimate

When you’ve beat the house, leave the table

Yeah it does suck. It also sucks when players leave, coaches retire, and the team loses. That’s just life of a fan.

I do think this is a trend. The PSU LB and Chase really have no reason to play this year.

We’ve seen more “crumbling” of the NCAA his this year than in the last 20 combined. I think COV, whether you believe it is for political, medical, or anything other reason, has dramatically accelerated the decline of the NCAA. Only a matter of time until college football falls apart as it has been.
