I feel bad for the kid. He sold out and now is in somebodies pocket. Going to be lonely just training for the next few months. I'm sure he has the best intentions and will help his family. But it is going to take extreme discipline to prepare and keep his focus outside of a team enviroment.

Quick question, has anybody ever gone top 5-10 after voluntarily sitting out a season?

Also, what type of interest plan is Chase getting for the money he is about to be fronted?

You should actually listen to the interview

He’s going to play the season out,” Jimmy Chase said. “He’s locked in with his team, and as long as everybody is healthy, he’s said he wants to play with his team and his teammates.

What could I possibly be missing?

What kind of excuse is this?

Arik Gilbert doesn’t owe anyone shite either. What if he just opted out of college altogether We still cool with all of this?

He’s had quite the August then, apparently.

If he’s dropping out of school, I agree. If he’s still on scholarship for the fall, he needs to play.

Has anyone ever been in this type of situation before? We are entering never before seen territory due to COVID. A ton of these prospects will be coming off the same year lay off

Likely zero. The agents will front him whatever he wants so that they get their hands on a top 5 draft talent over their competition

Yeah?

That would be his choice

Plenty of people decide during college to stop playing football for a variety of reasons

So it’s unreasonable to be upset about it? Being his choice and not owning you anything are true, but if the logic is that means you can’t be upset, it’s asinine.

You can be upset, just know it’s a pretty silly thing to be upset about

We’ll have to agree to disagree. He is and will always be a legend in BR. Your comments are driven by emotions.

I may be wrong but I firmly believe that 10-15 years down the road fans will talk more about burrow, ceh and Jefferson rather than chase. It’s what happens when you have so many playmakers on the offense that not every single one will be talked about along the lines of a Casanova/cannon/Mathieu/Peterson. Those other three had elite level production and a great story-underdogs to top of the heap and had the previous seasons production as well. Chase has high level expectations and really only showed out for one year. It was a great year but one off seasons aren’t typically the qualifications for legends. If he came back and had a 1000+ yard season certainly he would be a legend. Now he will be part of the 2019 story but not a separate story all on his own. People talk about billy cannon and the honey badger without a reference to say the 58 championship

With that said it’s his decision. He feels comfortable with his draft spot and doesn’t care enough about the above that’s ok. By all means make money

I realize it’s heresy, but you have to wonder what he saw once practice started to make him change his mind. Maybe this doesn’t look like a team he wants to play on after last year. More specifically, maybe the passing game does not look like one that is likely to enhance his NFL chances...

Live look at Chase in 15 years in this scenario

Can’t blame him. He’s sitting on a winning lottery ticket. The only way to go is down. Go run your sub 4.4 at the combine and make that money son.

Did you not read my last paragraph?

I acknowledged that he probably doesn’t care because of money and if he did then he would be playing. I was simply responding to the opinion that he will be a “legend at LSU”. I think he will he the forgotten star when people look back.

The whole mystic and awe of being a tiger legend and all that jazz is mostly stuff for fans and fodder to help sell tickets and get people invested. If people could figure out that concept, they’d probably be a lot happier and might be able to put themselves in these players shoes and look at it from a point of view other than themselves

All it takes is one slip up or one comment that this board disagrees with for a vocal part of this fan base to shun you forever and pour dirt on your name so idk why some people expect undying loyalty from the players in return for that

No one is going to “forget” Jamar Chase. He had 20 tTDs and helped bring home a 15-0 season. He was the difference in that Clemson game. If he has a good NFL career he will continue to be a huge ambassador for the program and one of the most popular former tigers we have

You mentioned Matthieu, which for even worse reasons ended up not playing his junior year, and he didn’t win a national title. I don’t think anyone forgot him

Exactly.

He has a right to quit on his team.

We also have a right to not like or necessarily agree with it.. especially the timing.

It's like some people can't even display a little emotion.

“Damn that really sucks” is a normal type of emotion for something like this

“frick what a POS, pussy, quitter, a-hole etc etc” is a bit over the top, and quite frankly pretty childish

We’re working under the premise that college sports passion itself is silly when you step back and look at it. However, within those confines, being upset for a bit isn’t silly.
