Having only voted in person before, I know how it works: you show your state sanctioned ID, they mark you off a list, you get your one and only ballot, and you vote.

How does it work for absentee and or mail in? How are you identified? How is it verified? How do they eliminate duplicates?

Thanks for the learning.

Im just glad you Republicans didn't fight it much.

It's crazy to think that my grandmother, who passed in March, shouldn't be able to vote. The laws still affect her succession, so she definitely should get to decide.

I don't even have to show ID to vote in person. Just sign the book and they glance to see if the signature matches!!! Ugh....such security....not.

If you give your mail-in ballot to a friend to drop in the mailbox, you didn't actually vote.

Your friend voted twice.

Once with his own vote and once by deciding whether or not to put your vote in the mail.

My understanding is the state mails ballots to all registered voters(heard some states mailed ballots to all residences even if not a registered voter but not sure). The ballot comes with a prepaid envelope. You fill it out, put it in the mail and then it gets delivered to some place where they open it and record your vote. As you can see there are major points of the process where fraud can take place.

I have to be a registered voter.

Easy to do. Extremely easy to do.

I go to the voting poll.

I show my drivers license.

I sign the book.

That is how it should be done.

I understand absentee and early voting.

But even that is getting out of control.

Three days before the election or you don’t get to vote.

Mail in voting is all about stealing elections. It’s that simple and everybody knows it

I have now voted absentee twice in Louisiana this summer.

I requested a ballot via the Voter Portal online. You have to have your DL# plus an audit# from said DL plus know your mother's maiden name. MY ballots arrived pretty soon after.

1. The ballot is a paper ballot that you mark like a scantron of old.

2. You put your ballot inside another envelope.

3. The envelope has a tear off portion that you put your DL# and audit# and mother's maiden name on. You sign it and print your name as well. (You don't tear off that portion. The RoV office does that to verify your ballot.)

4. You put your perforated ballot envelope inside a bigger envelope and mail it in. (We plan to take our Nov 3 absentee ballot to drop off at the RoV Office to avoid any potential USPS problem.)

I’ll tell you a secret. Mail-in voting and absentee are the same.

Absentee ballots have to be requested by the voter.

Ehh, not necessarily. In Louisiana most absentee voting is done in person at the office of Registrar of Voters for the voter's parish of residence. Although I have never had to do so, I'm sure there are indeed mail accommodations for those temporarily overseas (non-military) and obviously so for military. But for those in country but will be out of town or otherwise unavailable to local in person voting precinct, gotta go in person to registrar during early period.

Mail in voting is for people who aren't invested in the election or don't care. If you truly believe in your candidate then you will get out to make a difference.

What would keep a person from getting a mail in ballot, marking it and mailing it in and then going to their local polling spot and voting there also?
Is there some time limit involved? If the mail in ballot is in the mail going back, the local polling place would have no way to know that. To me that would be a logical reason to have people request a ballot, that way once you are mailed one, you either use that or can’t vote. But randomly mailing every adult addressee a ballot would be hard to track.

Oregon voter here - first state in the country to go to all mail-in voting. Paper ballot is sent to your address a few weeks before election day. You fill it out and place it in an inner security envelope, and then place that in another envelope with your name and voter information preprinted on it.

They tell you the date that you can drop it in a mailbox by (postage is now prepaid, it didn't used to be), or, if you prefer to do it closer to election day or don't trust the post office, there are special drop boxes (pretty much the same as those post office boxes, but designated just for elections) located all over the place. You just drive up and drop it in.

When the system was put in place, it was spearheaded mainly by Republicans who lived in the eastern part of the state (Eastern Oregon is VERY remote and getting to a polling place can be difficult), and opposed by the Democrats. Eventually it was pushed through via a ballot measure. In years like 2020 with both a primary and general election, the lack of polling places saves taxpayers something like 2 or 3 million dollars.

Fraud isn't really an issue:

1) Outer envelopes and the anonymous security envelopes are opened by different people.
2) Poll watchers from each party oversee the process. 3) You sign the outer envelope, and they check the signature against your voter registration. If it does not match, you are contacted by the election official and have at least 14 days to come verify it.
4) Ballots and outer envelopes have unique barcodes on them so if they're duplicated, the system will flag it either as invalid or as a duplicate.
5) You can track online when your ballot is mailed to you and when it is received by election officials after you return it.

Research from Brookings found that from 2000-2019, there were 15 documented cases of voter fraud out of 15.5 million ballots cast. The system works, and is overwhelmingly supported by both parties here.

Absentee is verified. General mail in is checks and balance. Liberal groups write checks to have millions of illegal ballots mailed out and its balanced by liberals stuffing said illegal ballots into the mail.

Simple

Absentee voting is different than early voting in Louisiana. You are only eligible to vote absentee (and therefore by mail) if you're going to be out of town on election day and during the ENTIRE early voting period. If that's the case (It was for me a for couple elections while I lived in LA) they send you a ballot and return envelope in the mail, and you sign it and seal it in the presence of a witness who also signs it.

Fraud may not even be the most profound issue. Oregon may be efficient at it after however long they've been doing it, but we're talking about many states giving it their first shot at that greatly expanded level, and for a Presidential election no less. Lack of efficiency and preparedness will likely dictate that untold amounts of ballots may never make it through the necessary steps of the process in order to counted. Which actually could even get into civil rights violations if that occurred where it was known or should have been known that it would likely occur.

Ok, I did see that on the SOS website. That seems like an more uncommon situation than not, being unavailable for both the early period and on election day, so surely that isn't a consequential number of voters overall.

I live in Florida. More than 75% of the home owners are barely here. They, like Trump, vote mostly by mail. Our August 18th primary was well over 63% mail in ballots. Trump doesn’t use absentee ballot, he uses the mail in process.
