I experienced this as well. It helped the anxiety, but the side effects caused me to quit taking it.

Citalopram changed my life. Look into it. No long term side effects. Super safe. Great for anxiety

Celexa is often reported as having fewer side effects. It’s not very clear how true that is by and large though.

Just from experience, learn exactly what your personality is. Each type has specific needs to stay in balance. For example, depending on the system I am a green/blue hybrid, type-A, etc. I have to control every aspect of my life. If not. My anxiety goes up. There are test you can take. Start here before meds, man. Please.

10 mg Lexapro here.

Some minor weight can that you can stave off with right eating.

Some minor effect to sex drive but on the positive side it makes it a little more challenging to orgasm which means you can pound your girl into multiple O.

I’m a psychiatrist working in private practice here’s my input. First, never accept and take mental health medication from your GP. Many will write them but in my experience they often don’t have a full scope on which medication, dose and titration, and when to expect to see results. Second, SSRIs and SNRIs are very hit or miss medications. We often don’t expect to see results for 4-6 weeks and you’ll likely have to try more than one. You can also expect symptoms to get worse before they get better because with these medications dose has to be raised quickly to re

As a GP, you don’t need to see a psychiatrist for simple depression or anxiety. We are well aware of how these medications work and their side effects. Just like with any problem, once a problem worsens outside of my scope, I have no problems sending a patient to see the specialist. But to say never accept mental health medication from a GP is asinine and insulting. If we sent you every patient with anxiety/depression, they’d never actually be able to get an appointment.

Celexa is interesting. Can you describe your condition before?

No weight gain?

I got on them a few years ago. I feel better. They worked for me. The first few weeks they mess with your sex(hard to get off) and you’ll sweat, But after a few weeks you good.

As I clarified to someone else already, I was no way insinuating GPs are bad. There’s also nothing wrong with them starting medication while the patient waits for a referral. Past that though, GPs treating mental health long term is a terrible idea and how people wind up in my office on ridiculous medication regimens and taking 8mg of Xanax a day. It’s not all of them but this is just true.

Wellbutrin (aka "Bupropion") is what you seek.

Took Lexapro for about year.

It wasn't some big noticeable change, but I could tell something was different/better.

The worst potential side effect is difficulty achieving orgasm. Which I found odd about something that is supposed to relieve depression/anxiety.

No doubt there are shitty GPs out there and I don’t give benzos under any condition. If someone isn’t responding after a few different med changes/uptitration PLUS therapy/CBT, then they need a psychiatrist.

Yet medications which impact dopamine, serotonin and other neurotransmitters work. Sounds biochemical at least partly to me. Im not saying that is the sole reason, either. It is multifactorial.

Zoloft works best for anxiety and people have actually lost weight on it. Win win.

I take lexapro

Not really worried about low libido. I’d recommend taking a good vitamin D3 supplement, more sun, and L-citrulline

Definitely agree therapy is vastly underutilized. With how much we know about how effective techniques like CBT are it should be standard practice.

How easily can one get in to see a good CBT practitioner?
