Dick's sporting goods, why are they still around?

I know they have been brought up on here, but i had an interesting experience at my local one this week. My son needed some baseball gear so we stopped by our local one. While we were there i said lets go get a few fishing supplies. This particular location has completely removed their fishing and hunting department. It is basically baseball, golf, bikes, and clothes. I asked the cashier about the removal of the fishing and hunting gear and she added they don't even offer to sell hunting and fishing licenses.
To add salt to the wound we did buy a baseball glove and they now charge $15 per glove to steam per glove. last year they were offering the service for free.
Next time i need something i will go to the local play it again sports and buy something used before i go back there.

Sounds like they figured out where their profit was made and it wasn't in hunting/fishing. They definitely have shrunk that area of the store which doesn't bother me because I buy 75% of my fishing gear from a locally owned place.

Travel ball has increased the gear that little Brayden needs to play, Dad needs the newest driver and irons, and the latest from Under Armor, Nike, etc all make way more money than them trying to sell overpriced guns and fishing gear. The only time I ever bought anything hunt/fish related at Dick's was when it was the only place in the area I could find 16 Gauge shells in stock.

Nah, Dicks is privately owned by a Liberal family whose virtue signaling is off the charts. They know hunting & fishing comprise a small part of their sales.
I won't even walk through their store.

Loads of markup on the stuff they do sell but they definitely are not any kind of outdoor store...walmart has more shite than dicks.

I for one appreciate the opportunity to pay 15-20% more for the exact same thing I could get at academy.

think you just answered your own question as to why they're still around.

No shite. Not only did he still make a purchase but he let them bend him over for steaming the glove. The OP is exactly the customer they cater to, all hat and no cattle...

I don't shop there or Field & Stream in Lafayette. Academy FTW.

Same. I don’t even know how they are open.

I wouldn't even grace their doors when they had fishing reels and rods 75% off on brands that never go on sale.

Dick's is now the SJW go-to sporting goods store. Their selection sucks arse.

I wrote off any shopping there a long time ago when they acted a fool over the black rifles!

We, as patriots and consumers, have choices in deciding where to buy our baseball gloves, weapons, ammo, campers and this week - tires.
I haven’t shopped at DSGs in years for multiple reasons having to do with service and politics.

I refuse to go there because their prices are 2x Academy and 3x anywhere online.
