I looked up Marty B's Wiki page and found this:
quote:

On June 12, 2007, Brennaman made an on-air apology during the Cincinnati Reds Radio Network broadcast for a comment he had recently made comparing an upcoming road trip to the Bataan Death March.
I mention it b/c I was once watching a CBS b-ball game when the subject of constantly fouling to stop the clock came up, and Bill Raftery said it sometimes gets to be like "the Bataan March" (IIRC, he didn't use the word "death"). Does anyone else remember this? Did Raftery get in hot water? (This was long ago, the '90s at least).

Whoa... Also on MB's page:
quote:

On February 5, 2010, Brennaman was chastised for commenting that Marshall University's president must be "queer" for softball at the university's baseball banquet and fundraiser. Brennaman stated, "I probably could have made a better choice of words, but in no way does that reflect my opinion about gays at all. It's just a comment I made about the president of the university."

Sucks. I always liked Brennamann for both football and baseball. Hope he comes back from this, but with today’s cancel culture I wouldn’t bet on it.

I’ve learned in 2020 that you can’t judge someone based on the content on character, but rather the color of their skin. I reserve judgment.

Brennaman, who calls Reds games for FOX Sports Ohio as well as some national games for FOX Sports, appeared to be unaware that the broadcast of a Reds-Royals game in Kansas City had returned from commercial break when he was heard referring to someplace as "the fig capital of the world."

Kudos to him. Now, don't back down to the Twitter mob.

His position should be, I said it and it stands. Next...

Tell the politically correct crowd to go die in a fire.

What a weird fricking stance. Kudos to him for what? Accidentally saying fig on air?

ETA: Lets just be honest, the kudos comment was for nothing more than the fact that you are happy that he said the word “fig”. Which is hilariously transparent.

Dyslexic much brah?

WWL =/= WLW
quote:

I used to enjoy hearing his Dad call Reds games back in the day over AM radio when WWL in Cincy would have its signal make it to Bham on summer nights.

That's his only out. He has to say he's gay and was just really pumped about KC being full of homos.

It's actually kind of ironic because I can remember back in the day some folks were speculating the reason the Cubs got rid of him was that he and Steve Stone were having a thing.

If it was San Francisco he was talking about he is correct.

I don't see the big deal, it wasn't like he used the N word...

If he's saying that about KC then I guess the Reds haven't played at the Rangers lately.

Liberace himself could have said that and he’d still be a gone pecan.

Said that’s not who he is, which is hilarious because that’s exactly who he is when he thinks the mic is off.

I always love the fake "I did something out of character, that's not who I really am" apologies. He also threw in his faith...and that's a drive deep into left for a single run homer...like that excuses anything.

The guy was clearly joking around with his broadcast crew. It's not like he went on some serious anti-gay rant. Fox Sports freaked out and made this a much bigger deal than it had to be.
