re: What would be your honest opinion of Becky Hammon getting the job?

Those would be my fears as well. But there are positives too.
I’d defer to Griff and Langdon on this one.

She could be a great potential coach, this team just isn’t in a position to be the sample test.

I think Becky Hammon would be a great coach... just not for the Pelicans. I feel like the Pels are on a much shorter timeline to try to start winning. She would be a first time head coach and would not be allowed room to grow because of that. I do think she will eventually be a head coach in the league tho.

I feel like she is going to be the Coach in Waiting in SAS.

Team needs to make a homerun hire and win now or organization might as well be sold.

I don’t know a lot about her...but at least it’s not a retread hire. God I hate that.

I actually think this is probably the most likely scenario. Despite my personal mixed feelings.
Because while the organization is a well oiled machine, it will be pretty much impossible to follow in the shadow of Pop’s legacy. Not only being the first woman coach, but having to follow up arguably the greatest coach the sport has ever seen. That is no small ask.

Looking at the roster as currently constructed, I think the exact opposite TBH. Jrue would 100% respect her, likewise Zion seems to be a genuinely good kid. BI is too laid back to cause trouble. JJ, Hart, and Jax seem like they would be super supportive. Zo is iffy, but I feel like that for even a male coach. Favors is a who knows. Rest of the roster who cares.

Why the frick are some people on this board so quick to want to sell an NBA franchise? There are teams in every pro sports league that hasn’t done jack shite in the last 30 years, but those teams have stayed put?
The NBA isn’t leaving NOLA any time soon, there’s too much money in it.

Because we’ve squandered multiple superstar talents and no matter what this organization will always be second fiddle to the saints.

20 years ago the Saints were nothing. Then they found the right star and the right coach and now the saints are competing for the Super Bowl every year. Give the Pelicans a chance

Who is that?
This board is so schizophrenic. We don’t want a retread, but won’t stop short of hiring Coach K or Brad Stevens.
Phil Jackson’s first HC job was with the Bulls, Pop’s first/only HC job was the Spurs, Steve Kerr’s first HC job was the Warriors. I’m okay with an assistant if it’s a good fit.

The pels don’t need to be taking a risk on someone like hammons
They need a proven head coach
Like Mark Jackson, Jason Kidd, or Ty Lue?

I'm still waiting on someone to tell me why Hammond would be a good hire. Someone has to have some pros to balance the cons. I'm not even being argumentative here. I don't know anything about her other than she is one of Pop's assistants and she chose to play for Russia in the Olympics.
Is she an offensive assistant? Defensive? Has she helped develop any particular players? Does she draw up sets for Pop? What is her m.o.?

Why does she deserve consideration over any other coach in the league? She may be a good coach, I honestly do not know. What other accolades does she have besides being a woman and being Pop's assistant on a Spurs team that has been average for the last few seasons. If she's the best candidate then by all means go for it, but hiring her just to make a statement and to be progressive isn't what this team needs.

Prob for the same reason most guys get a shot at a head coaching gig
She had a 15 year pro career playing PG and has been on staff with Pop and countless other sharp basketball minds with varying areas of expertise minds (Messina Xs&Os, udoka scouting and player dev etc)
Why do any of these former players get a job? Do we think these guys were more qualified when they was hired? Lue? Kidd? Jacque Vaughn? Earl Watson? Luke Walton? Mark Jackson?

Not gonna pretend to know the intricacies of her duties, but she coached their summer league teams and is credited with aiding in the development of Derrick white, Lonnie walker, and Dejounte Murray. I’m sure she also pulls from each coach’s knowledge like any other ambitious young assistant.

Answer this about any of the prospective candidates

I make Brad Stevens, Budenholzer and Nick Nurse tell me no twice and then I go after Billy Donovan.

Let some other team take the risk.
We have a generational talent in his rookie salary window you don’t frick around with extreme wildcards.

There is going to likely be risk in no matter who we hire. Sure things are never available.
Sam Cassell intrigues me as well though.
