I think a lot of those were slabs before though. Most didn’t rebuild after Rita.
No doubt

Imagine if it turned East and followed the coast all the way to NYC. It’s easy to imagine worse scenarios. Let’s just be glad so many people didn’t lose everything.
Roll Tide Ravens, this was only partially directed to you. For all I know you were pointing out how lucky and fortunate everyone was. It’s just easy to retroactively point out how a hurricane could have been worse without acknowledging how lucky Louisiana was.

It is thought this might’ve saved LCH. Iowa looks really bad. Like really bad.

Yeah my wife just sent me some pictures of a house in Iowa and it’s bad. It’s still standing but barely.

This is a weather thread, so I think we can be free to talk about different scenarios. Of course I am glad that the worst didn't happen. I wasn't pulling for the worst to happen. But since storm surge has been a big topic today, I think we can at least mention how the surge in places like Cameron or Holly Beach would have been worse with a slightly further west landfall.
No need to respond like I pissed in your cornflakes just by mentioning the scenario.

I edited. Sorry.
My doomsday hypothetical is “What if Laura formed nearly the same but a day later and the high pressure ridges prevented it from leaving the gulf coast area?”

Had someone go to my house and got video confirmation that everything on the outside looked really good... didn’t look like any shingles were even missing (they were brand new). Don’t know about the interior of the house, but the outside was better than I could ever hope for. And that’s with a water oak falling and not hitting my house or anyone else’s.
We’ve got the hotel room till Saturday... gonna stay till then, then maybe put my family at my wife’s best friends house in Laffy. I’ll head to LC to help my brother and dad whose houses didn’t fare as well as mine.

The telephone pole that Hurricane Track's camera box was on in Cameron was knocked over by surge. The owner of the Shell station seen on the camera took a drone video of the surrounding area, and Mark Sudduth spotted the yellow camera box. It also had pressure gauges and other instruments in it that recorded data until the surge took it out. The camera continued to record for around a minute after it went under water.
He's asked if local authorities in the area can retrieve the box before it comes up missing.

Damn, really good news for you, glad to hear.
Yeah with no power if your house ok considering it just went through a Cat 4, can wait a bit to get back

It could have stalled or slowed to a crawl and sat there raking the area for the better part of a day like Dorian last year. But Dorian was in the same general area more than 24 hours. Cat 5 winds for that length of time is the stuff of nightmares.

Saw FB reports that some areas have no water to their house. If that is true you surely would not want to bring the family back.

We're cool. I was just trying to point out how things could have been much worse and how storm surge could have been different.

Pretty much the entire area. Was just told 2-4 weeks before water is restored but haven’t confirmed. That person said local hospitals are being evacuated.
