Hate people who play fast.
I’ve blocked my day out to include a round of golf. I’m in no rush. I’ve set the time aside in my day to be at the golf course.
Can’t tell you the grief I’ve gotten from strangers when I don’t “give them” a 3 footer. Or when I putt my 2 footer in. The hole isn’t done until the ball goes in the cup is what I always tell them. You wouldn’t give an NFL team 6 points for reaching the redzone.
I’ll read my putt from both sides and take as much damn time as I need.
Now if I’m a single or a twosome, I typically do play under 4 hours. But it’s certainly not a goal.
Why even golf if you’re just running through the course. Take up field hockey or something else

I agree with you in spirit. I think it is annoying when people rush to the point of impacting the way they play. You are well within your eighths to read your putt, putt it all out, practice your shots, all of that stuff. That said you’ve got to make sure you are maintaining pace of play and not slowing up the course

These people should have zero impact on you. They can’t make you speed up if in your group and if they are behind you just let them play through and you are done with them. Golf course etiquette isn’t hard. Play at whatever pace you want but let faster groups through.

3 hrs for 2 people is a perfectly normal length of a round, in fact I bet the average 2some takes longer than 3 hours
I’m talking with no one around. My buddy and I finish 9 holes in an hour easy in the evenings. When no one is there, it’s not difficult to get 18 done in 2/2.5 hours. 3 is pushing it.

I’m with you when no one is around, even still I don’t think 3 hours for two people is that slow when no one is around, I think that’s probably pretty normal

quote:First, it depends. Putting out I have no problem with. Giving inside 2 ft I have no problem with. But let’s get it straight on the first tee especially in a money game. That’s what my groups typically do. How are we are playing it and how are are we doing putts. I’m fine with any rules as long as they’re the same.

As far as a single or double taking 4 hours. My god. That’s a little more than just enjoying the day. However, if I’m in a twosome on a Saturday morning, I fully expect to take plenty of time and don’t expect anyone to let us through. Not like we would get anywhere anyway.

This is a ridiculous take. Golf is a 4 hour game.

Sometimes my rounds take too long because my drive hits a poorly designed cart path and the ball bounces way off either in a pond or high grass. It takes a while to search for the ball and sort that out.

I get that this is a troll but I admit this issue gets me. I’m perfectly content with the normal pace of play: line up your putts, practice swings, whatever. But the guy who spends an inordinate amount of time looking for his wayward drive, often 50 to 100 yards further down the fairway than where it went in really gets me. Also, those old dudes that haul through the course are hitting it straight generally.

Do you drive 70 in the left lane on the interstate?

Haha no that is what is funny. I have a handful of speeding tickets for one.. I’m a relatively young (30) dude. I bring my speaker to the golf course to listen to music, I’ll wear my hat backwards, mark my ball with my tee (things all you old farts get your panties in a bunch about).
But yea, golf is a game that takes time. Rushing it is stupid and is done by people who aren’t great at golf to begin with, hence why they just blow through it. I’m out there to play my best and have fun. That’s what is funny is all these dudes rushing typically suck. And their scores are inflated (deflated?) by giving themselves every 3 foot putt and even some 4-5footers. I know damn well that you ain’t gonna make all of those, but you don’t wanna miss so under the guise of pace of play you pick it up or drop another ball. My favorite is the guy who blows his 3 foot putt three feet beyond the hole, and then gives himself the come backer lmao.
To answer some other questions/comments directed at me. I’m not great no, but relatively good golfer (low 80s). I’ve never thought to “give someone a putt” because I could care less what some stranger puts on their scorecard and I’d never give myself a putt anyway (pre ChinaVirus ball ALWAYS had to go into the hole to move on). And yes I always let fast groups go through if it’s warranted. But no, I’ve never had pace of play issues. I’m not the guy preventing people from finishing on time lol .I can easily play a good round of solo golf (twosome with a good partner) around 3 or so hours. But it isn’t something I’m thinking about or trying to achieve. Why would I need to? I’m having a nice day at the course out on a beautiful day. I don’t care if it takes me the four hours. I may slow down the dude who sucks anyway trying to play a round in 2 hours but he can EAD.
EDIT
I’ll also just add for context. It’s been a long arse time since I’ve even played a course open enough to finish in 3 hours. Especially with Rona, everyone is at the golf course since there’s not much else you can do. Lately I’ve been waiting on almost every shot to hit or tee off. It’s not a huge deal if it’s just a couple minutes. And if anything it’s more of a course issue overbookIng than it is the guys in front of me. However yea if some guys who suck are taking a long arse time it’s not fun to wait for that (happened to me last time I went out behind some first-timers), but to me that is a separate issue than somebody competent finishing out a hole, playing it where it lies, etc.

quote:The old guys who finish rounds in 2.5 hours are really good. They play the correct tees and they hit it straight. You have it backwards. The guys who take 5+ hours usually suck because you have 4 or 5 guys taking 100 strokes/putts instead of 80 or less. That’s a ton of extra swings and putts not to mention looking for lost balls.
That’s what is funny is all these dudes rushing typically suck.
You call it rushing. I call it being good.
That being said, I have no problem with guys who have a routine that’s a little longer and they stick to it. Plenty of respect for those guys.

A 3 hour solo round us slow as frick btw. That’s with no one in your way. A foursome is expected to finish most holes in 15 minutes and you can’t average 10 minutes by yourself? Yikes.

I played Webb the other day on a weekday at 7:00 am in a twosome. We waited on two holes and then the group in front of us let us pass, wasn't really trying to push them or anything, they were just gracious and let us play through. Didn't feel rushed, putted everything out, or within reason.
Made it to work downtown by 9:00.
There is zero reason, if you're decent at golf and no one is on the course for a twosome to take more than 3 hours.
I love golf, but most of the time I have somewhere else I need to be. Which is why I try and play at times I can get around the course faster.

It's crazy how those old men do it. I had a group behind me the other day and watched them when the got around the green. They were chipping at the same time and not waiting on each other. Each hit one putt and considered the next a gimmee, hardly glanced at a line on the first putt and scooped the second even if it was 5' away. I swear they don't even care about the golf, they just want to fly around out there

I agree with this. To me the course should establish a pace of play and understand that every group is required to keep up with that pace (should be 4 hours at most courses, I know they said Seminole has it at 3.5 hours). If a group falls behind they need to pick it up and if they can't they need to skip a hole. If a group feels the pace is too slow then too bad, the course has established the pace.
Rushing other groups because you want to play fast is just as bad as holding up the course because you're playing slow

If a guy is playing an honest enough round in two hours he doesn’t suck.
The people that slow the course down are the schmucks who look for every ball, read muni greens like they are at Augusta, and take a million useless practice swings
I play fast, probably too fast but I’ve never once got off 18 and thought I burned thru the course. I get bored and out of rhythm waiting on every shot. Slow play usually lead to too many beers
I am 30 as well, mid 80-90 depending on The day. Definitely will rack up a triple here and there.

I play regularly with 2 other guys and we can finish a round in 2.5-3 hours with scores varying from 79-100.
We played at a course on a friday morning near augusta a few weeks ago and had a dogfight starting behind us with about 30 old men. They were all nice and cordial but they stayed right on our arse the entire round. You can't help but feel rushed in that scenario and it doesn't make for a great round of golf when you're pressured out of your normal routine.
