Players parents should sue the officials who have forced the use of face shields

I'm sure the officials are well-intentioned, but those shields could cause brain damage or worse from heat stroke.

Potential immediate complications of severe heat stroke include shock, acute renal failure, rhabdomyolysis, acute respiratory distress syndrome, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and acid-base or electrolyte disturbances (11). Long-term neurologic sequelae occur in approximately 20% of patients

Players hate it -
quote:
There was an immediate review on the TicToc account of LSU linebacker Soni Fonua on a video from the LSU locker room.
On the video, Fonua is wearing the new face shield helmet, which already appears to be fogging. He’s laughing as he says, “I can’t F’n breathe under this thing.”
After his statement, senior starting offensive tackle Austin Deculus is seen walking in the background saying, “It’s like breathing in a Ziploc bag.”

Since damages have yet to occur, they could choose to not do something that will cause brain damage or worse from heat stroke.

How many times did you claim you’d GTFO after Burrow left?

They will sue the manufacturers and the officials, as soon as there is an incident.
JJ Watt already said he would opt out before using these... A lot of college kids will not play with these.

Seriously, Lunitik. You approve of this idiotic move.
I always had you pegged as a former player.

I think There’d are a lot of real application concerns for the face fields.
Honestly I think Plastic was the wrong way to go.
Some kind of cloth barrier likely would have served the same purpose and breathes a little better.
Obviously less durably but still.
Or go outside the mask to give them a little more space. It’s going to be interesting.

This is not how risk assessment works.
You are starting with the assumption face shields on helmets cause heat strokes with no supporting data. Heat stroke is a risk of playing football in the summer, period.
Its a fair argument adding a shield increases that risk, but I doubt it does appreciably. And if there is some incremental increased risk, it can be offset with more hydration and breaks.
And you have completely left out of the equation how much the shield might decrease the risk of getting covid and the much longer laundry list of coivd related health issues.
Its really just another layer of the mask debate. No one wants to be in a world where they wear masks and face shields. But masks and face shields do appreciably reduce the risk of contracting covid.
Everyone who wants to see LSU football this year should be for all reasonable measures that reduce the risk of catching covid. If an appreciable number of football student athletes start getting covid, we are not going to see football this year. Just keeping it real.

Eh. The players are gonna bitch about player safety with or without the mask this year no matter what.

Everything but football. Single mom wouldn't let her baby boy play.

Parents are given promises of concern for player's safety during recruiting. They have standing.
And USA today. Sporting News, and 24/7 have published negative articles on the LSU face shields.
Hoping the bullshite killer-plastic will be in the dumpster by sundown
