It’s not much of a leap from “jerking beef” to masturbation.

I bought a bag of Jack Links jerky several years ago and looking at the back label there was Chinese writing.I fed that shite to my dog.
At some point they took the Chinese writing of the package but I’ll be damned if I will take a chance,I’m sure it’s made in China.
BUC CEES has good jerky.

Dehydrating beef loses a ton of the product weight in the process. You lose 1/3 to 2/3 of the meat's weight during the jerky making process. It's still pricey, but the COGS is also incredibly high.

Killing a deer or elk and making jerky out of that is the way to go.

correct, you should be selling cracklins at $26.00/pound. Much higher ROI

If you're gonna pay $20/lb for beef jerky, at least get it from Bourgeois Meat Market in Thibodeaux. LINK

The secret is to season the meat while the people are still alive.

Got to remove all the fat and then remove most of the water weight. Yes, it is expensive unless you look at the initial cost of the beef before anything is done to it. That 1 pound probably started at 4-5 pounds.

Someone told me it takes 7 pounds of flank steak to yield a pound of jerky. Hence the cost.

Well, considering the beef loses between 1/2 to 3/4 of it's original weight during the dehydration process and then factor in the cost of spices and other goods to season the meat, the cost of energy in charcoal and wood for smoking the meat and the labor of making and packaging it, it really isn't all that bad.

ETA: And if doing it for sale to the general public, factor in business insurances and they really aren't making that big killing you think they are.
